Re: Daniel Dubois vs. Joe Joyce - November 28, 2020 on ESPN+
Just watched the fight, it was very strange. Dubois almost dominating all the bout , but Joyce was able to land hard jabs who provoked that swollen eye to Dubois. He has also a very very strong chin, the two things made him win the fight. Unbelievable...
Re: Daniel Dubois vs. Joe Joyce - November 28, 2020 on ESPN+
Rewatched the fight. Joyce was boxing, Dubois was throwing occasional power punches. And Dubois was hitting the target! Just nothing worked. Those were the punches to KO Gorman and the other guys. Joyce chin is freakish. Joyce was taking Dubois' punches well and kept boxing. Joyce bossed Dubois.
I didn't expect Dubois to be that one-dimensional, but more I didn't expect such a chin of Joe.

Re: Daniel Dubois vs. Joe Joyce - November 28, 2020 on ESPN+
Is Dubois limited? Or was his approach just juvenile? He seemed competent but punched himself out whilst also head hunting. Surely he could have been more economical.
As for his head movement, he had some. More than Joyce. I’d say he needs to learn how to parry the jab.
But it’s easy for me to criticise from a lazboy chair.
Have to credit Joyce who out toughed him mentally and physically.

Daniel Dobious is f$cking 6'4" midget ...wait and let's see how Joy Joyce react when he fight someone taller with long reach with half decent power ... I'm done with Daniel Dobious until next 3 years, the hype is over

"They ain't got nothing to say right now. Man's out here quitting. Sh-t, man's out here quitting in mid-fight," Dillian Whyte said on Instagram.
"They were saying they wanna fight me and they were gonna knock me out. One thing with me, no quit, straight warrior. If I'm losing, I'm getting knocked out. Straight warrior, straight warrior. And these cowards wanna mention [me].... f--king fish eyes and Daniel Dubois."
“I thought he quit there, let's call a spade a spade, I'd rather be dragged out the ring,” Carl Frampton said on BT Sport, with former world heavyweight champion David Haye concurring with his assessment.
"It was a close fight, but you have to call it what it is. He's a young kid, he can come back. You come back and learn. The knee spoilt it all for me, you're going to have to take a lot of criticism.

No shame in quitting for Dubois. He could lose health and career, not just a fight, if he bit his mouthpiece and tried to kill or be killed.

Good point. Watching the two corners you couldn't miss the difference. Joyce and his corner remained composed throughout whilst the Dubois corner looked as if they'd under-prepared and began to tighten up a little.
That must have affected Dubois, confidence wise.
Shades of the young Frank Bruno and Terry Lawless?
Tough decision time for Danny.
In any case no one should begrudge Joe Joyce, that was a masterful boxing exhibition from him last night.
Not as slow as we thought eh? With that impressive display Joyce has earned himself a real mega fight.
Forget Yoka, it's got to be one of the big names. If any of them are up for it, that is.

He should come back and be a quiet man.
Just go out and do what he does best..
He didn’t fight a novice last night.. he fought a very experienced boxer who has been in the ring with some of the best names win or lose.
I was rooting for Joyce and glad he won. Doesn’t matter how you lose.. some people won’t forget, but some will. It’s the haters that won’t forget. Dubois is still learning and last night was his biggest lesson so far IMO.
I don’t believe in, “ if you lose, change your team”..
His team did seem clueless a little, but realistically, basic head movement? Is that something you teach really? He’s never done it.
Dubois has a good jab, but he was beaten to it last night by the better man.
Joyce will probably always have Dub’s number.

Peter Fury explained the following to iFL TV:
“I think Dubois realised the artillery was going to come very quickly - that it was on its way! And I think he just needed to get out of there, to be honest,
“But look, let’s not powder coat anything, he did quit in that fight, because it was just too much for him!”

Agreed. Joyce was over hyped. I picked Joyce to win, but to be frank he has slowed down since he has turned professional and that's not a good thing.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 21:20Once again, will you not concede about the factual accuracy of my post about Joyce’s jab?oogiebe wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 21:18Thank you. I appreciate that. For the record, Dubois quit after taking 500 jabs to his eye which looks like a broken orbital bone and possible nerve damage. He was winning the fight on most scorecards, albeit closer than that one blind judge. I had him up 1 round. If it's not the worse case scenario, he'll be back. He's only 23 and needs more seasoning, which hopefully he'll get.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 21:15
OK, I’ll concede that Dubois didn’t quit due to intense heat and pressure.
He quit under a very small amount of inconvenience!
Dubois is even worse than a rose, he’s far more fragile.
And by the way, did you not read my post about Joyce’s jab?
You seem to persistently criticise me, even though it’s clear you ignore most of my posts.
Dubois wouldn’t have quit if he didn’t fûckïng hate the pain he had to endure!
I’m willing to compromise and you should too.
And for the record, I had Joyce winning the fight at the time of the stoppage.
Dubois was excessively over-hyped and deserves to be criticised for quitting. It’s going to take a while for him to rebuild his reputation, because it’s in tatters at the moment.

Billy Joe Saunders expressed his opinion about Dubois to iFL TV:
“You know, get carried out the ring brother... get carried out!
“It’s not all [about] knocking people unconscious and then you’re eye goes... and then you want to get out.
“It’s going to take a long, long, long road [for Dubois to] get back from that!”
“I think Fräñk Wârręn will be disappointed about Dubois [quitting].”

Matthew Macklin, Spencer Fearon, Peter Fury, Billy Joe Saunders, Dillian Whyte, Carl Frampton, David Haye, Paul Smith, Chris Eubank Jr., Anthony Fowler, Nathan Gorman, Jared Anderson, Johnny Nelson, Dave Coldwell, Kalle Sauerland and many others have aggressively criticised Dubois for quitting.
And even though they all concede about DDD being young enough to learn from his loss and improve, they all question his heart and mental strength to progress to eventually becoming a world-rated fighter.

He quit. His eye was shut but he quit. The ref or your corner stops it not the fighter by taking a knee and rising at the count of 10
Re: Daniel Dubois vs. Joe Joyce - November 28, 2020 on ESPN+
DDD won 5 or 6 rounds (out of 9), his health is much more important than a win, He is young, I expect him to be back soon.
Re: Daniel Dubois vs. Joe Joyce - November 28, 2020 on ESPN+
Really? He won 4 max. I gave him 3, while a one of those rounds I gave with hesitation.ValMar wrote: ↑29 Nov 2020, 11:07DDD won 5 or 6 rounds (out of 9), his health is much more important than a win, He is young, I expect him to be back soon.oogiebe wrote: ↑28 Nov 2020, 20:26The story tonight was Jab and Chin. Agreed, but there’s levels. Joyce has faced better opposition and regularly spars against world-rated fighters.
Dub was fighting in spurts, he was getting not only outjabbed all night long, but exactly bothered by those jabs. He was bossed.

Johnny Nelson said the following to iFL TV:
“Joe Joyce exposed that [Dubois’ inexperience]
“It probably was a [huge] shock to the people that believed in the büllshít machine,
“If I keep telling you ‘this kid is this!’ or ‘this kid is that!’, without you looking at the facts, you’re going to believe my büllshít!”
“Unfortunately, [Dubois] is going to be in line to receive a lot of criticism for the way the fight finished.
“This is going to be a huge test of his character to show how he deals with the negativity he gets, because he’s never had to [deal with] any negativity,
“Now he’s going to receive 90% negativity [being] thrown at him.
“And this is going to show his maturity, his strength and bounce-back ability...”
“Dubois made a fundamental mistake he’s going to regret [quitting] for the rest of his life. In regards to taking a knee and letting the count take him out!”
“It was the first time he was on the receiving end of what he usually dishes out!
“I hope to god this doesn’t break his heart and he falls out of love with this sport, because of the backlash he’s going to get.
“Unless you’ve mentally prepared yourself to be stretchered out of that place [the ring]... when everything keeps going your way, and then all of a sudden you’re on the receiving end of a beating you’ve never [experienced], receiving pain you’ve [never felt]...
“Dubois, it was an instinctive move to say, “you know what? The tables have turned here. I’m in deep here! I can’t carry on!’”
“If you’ve got a [büllshít] machine that’s behind you, saying ‘this kid is this, that and the other’...
“Of course you’re going to believe it!”
“You build him up, and if they fall, they’re going to fall HARD!”
“Dubois quit! He did quit! What else did he do? He quit!”
“This was a conscious decision! There’s no excuse for it! He did quit! He showed a weakness of his character!”

I don't know. That's easy for us to say. I've seen some cowardly submissions, but this wasn't one of them.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑29 Nov 2020, 11:00 He quit. His eye was shut but he quit. The ref or your corner stops it not the fighter by taking a knee and rising at the count of 10
The potential to lose one's eyesight permanently is a far cry from "my shoulder hurts" or "I'm tired."

Dubois wont amount to much. He hasn't got the skills or mental fortitude. He will fight on I'm sure, but he showed a real lack of belief.

Keep in mind that Vitali went out like a fool on his stool against Byrd.
And he went on to highly respectable career.
He was quite heroic in his loss against Lewis. Until afterward when he stalked around whining about it.
At least Dubois didn't do that. He quit but no whining.
Unless his head is messed up he'll fight again.

Rather bizarrely, one judge, John Latham had Dubois up by 7 rounds, (or maybe even 8
acc to some sources) to 1 at the time of the stoppage.
On his card Dubois only had to finish the fight to win.

That round would have been a 10-8 had it continued.. and there’s no doubt that JJJ would have won the remaining rounds..
Would have probably got a MD or a SD win tbh.

Let's give Dubois a break here. The young man panicked clearly and was probably scared of a career threatening injury (you never know how these things go). I just hope he's back in good shape and to continue his career. Let's support the man, he can only be good for the heavyweight division.
Huge credit to Joe Joyce here. Apart from that granite chin, what gets me is the man's composure. He's always cool and composed both in the ring and outside it. He's a limited boxer but boy he just keeps coming and he like we saw yesterday, is supremely effective. The last jab that got DDD was brutal..so much power on it. Great weekend, and for the United fans here there's just one word. Cavani
