Why do broadcasters quote a 'two inch reach advantage' as though it means that the fighter's arms are 2 inches longer than their opponent. It's one inch each arm. It infuriates me.
They should scrap reach stats and use arm length instead.
That's all. Enjoy your day.
"Reach advantage"
Re: "Reach advantage"
Are they even measured or just estimates?
I heard Carl Frampton say in his podcast that no one has ever measured his reach, for example.

Re: "Reach advantage"
Doesn't the measurement also measure across the chest? Some boxers have much wider chests than others so that 2 inches isn't even necessarily split between the two arms.

chest width contributes to how far you can hit someone from, so it should be accounted for, having broader shoulders/chest basically means your arm starts from further outdeadpan wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 09:06 Why do broadcasters quote a 'two inch reach advantage' as though it means that the fighter's arms are 2 inches longer than their opponent. Wider shoulders means you can punch further. Simple really

Re: "Reach advantage"
A lot of stats are exaggerated, fighters like to give the impressions they are bigger than they are. It would be interesting to see fighters properly measured though.
