Gonna get it straight away on 2/12/20
£1.99 / mth ? Sounds too good to be true.

This time next year it’ll probably be twenty a month but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it

Sounds good. I wonder if it’ll be just one login per account - even so it’s well worth it.

DAZN have convinced pension funds and the like to back them with some bold forecasts on growth I take it? If that's the case it should prove good for boxing fans for a while and less good for pensioners..?

100% subscribing, worth it for Canelo/Smith alone. Throw in Campbell/Garcia and Golovkin against that polish kid and your laughing at that price.

Canelo vs Smith tickets info announced – on sale now

Mexican pound-for-pound king faces World #1 Super-Middleweight in San Antonio on Dec 19

Canelo Promotions and Matchroom Boxing are delighted to announce that tickets for the blockbuster showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Callum Smith for the WBA and Ring Magazine World Super-Middleweight titles will go on sale at 1pm CT/ 2pm ET today (November 25) for their showdown at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday December 19, live on DAZN in 200+ countries and territories worldwide and on TV Azteca in Mexico.

Canelo (53-1-2 36 KOs) fights at the venue for the second time in his storied career having beaten Austin Trout there in April 2013, and it’s the fourth time the Mexican pound-for-pound king has boxed in Texas having beaten Trout, James Kirkland and Smith’s older brother Liam in the Lone Star state.

Smith (27-0 19 KOs) will be gunning for revenge for ‘Beefy’s’ defeat in September 2016, and the Liverpool star will look to rubber-stamp his position as the number one 168lber in the world and crash into the pound-for-pound rankings himself with victory on the biggest night of his eight-year pro career.

Tickets for the blockbuster night of action start at $75 (plus fees) and are on sale from 1pm CT/ 2pm ET from ticketmaster.com.

There will be a limited capacity at the Alamodome, with fans in socially distanced clusters of seating – fan safety is the number one priority for the Alamodome and the stadium has implemented a comprehensive COVID-19 reopening plan.

Julio Cesar Martinez defends WBC flyweight title against Francisco Rodriguez on Canelo-Smith card

Francisco Rodriguez will challenge WBC flyweight titleholder Julio Cesar Martinez in an all-Mexico battle on December 19, promoter Oswaldo Kuchle told The Ring late Monday night.

The 12-round bout will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas and will precede the main event bout between Canelo Alvarez and Ring Magazine champion Callum Smith.

Both fights will be streamed live on DAZN.

Rodriguez (33-4-1, 24 knockouts), who resides in Monterrey, Mexico, has not fought since November 30 of last year, stopping Jose Maria Cardenas in round 6.

Since losing back-to-back fights to then-WBO junior flyweight titleholder Donnie Nietes and countryman Moises Fuentes in 2015, Rodriguez has mostly campaigned at 115 pounds. He has displayed more aggression and power in winning his last 14 bouts, including 11 by knockout.

Despite currently being ranked No. 7 by The Ring at junior bantamweight, Kuchle believes Rodriguez can not only make 112 pounds but can pull off the upset win over Martinez.

“It’s a great fight, which we just finalized,” said Kuchle, who runs Promotions del Pueblo. “We are very confident in (Rodriguez to win).”

The 27-year-old Rodriguez became the WBO strawweight titleholder in March 2014 by stopping Merlito Sabillo of the Philippines. Less than five months later, in a unification fight, Rodriguez defeated Japan’s Katsunari Takayama by unanimous decision to add the IBF world title at 105 pounds.

Martinez (17-1 1 NC, 13 KOs) was scheduled to defend his WBC title against McWilliams Arroyo of Puerto Rico on August 15 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but had to withdraw from the fight, reportedly due to a throat infection.

In his last bout on October 23, Martinez, who is ranked No. 3 by The Ring, stopped late-sub Moises Calleros in round 2 in his hometown of Mexico City.

The 25-year-old Martinez is trained by Eddy Reynoso, who also trains Alvarez, heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez, WBC junior featherweight titleholder Luis Nery, and unbeaten lightweight Ryan Garcia.

Is there a way Smith can win this ? I can’t see one

Not even sure there’s a realistic way he can last the distance ?

is it unrealistic that big cal might be able to take a shot, and get hit but is durable enough to tough it out and last? that he might last a bit longer than his bro?

he usually rises for the occassion so i expect him to be a lot better than the ryder fight suggested and to make something out of it at least

I just don’t think he’s as good as people think. A bit open, a bit flat footed. Doesn’t use his attributes. Will never hurt canelo. I just see him getting rattled repeatedly to the body and being worn down.

I expect DAZN's medium term strategy is to go public with a sky high IPO price largely based on subscriber growth to date and ongoing potential. To do that they will need to encourage new blood and retain subscribers. Therefore, I anticipate the prices staying low.

Canelo's going to fold Smith like a deck chair. It might be competitive for a round or two but I don't foresee Alvarez ever losing in the current position he's in. Nobody's going to KO that kid below 175. Take him to points? You're going to lose or at the very best get a draw, no matter how well you do. And he's so freaking strong: it's easy to get caught up in him being a PED shortass, when the guy is an absolute tank.

Funny though, I really don't have any interest in watching him fight. The staying up element doesn't help. I stayed up to watch him fight Kovalev, which should have been a dangerous fight on paper but I knew with Canelo's track record and Kov's soul still well in the possession of Andre Ward that the Mexican was going to knock the Russian out; and I'd stay up to watch him fight Saunders because I dislike both fighters equally and seeing BJS KO'd would be fun and seeing BJS actually outboxing and winning so wide they just couldn't rob him would be absolutely hilarious. But Smith? Nah. Again, like most of these fights in the US my days of staying up late to watch a stream that keeps freezing and then feeling drained and tired trying to go back to sleep for a day of feeling crappy, just for a boxing match I really don't care that much about? Those days are over.

I'm a fully fledged heavyweight nerd now and that's pretty much it unless it's on at a reasonable hour. Otherwise I'm out.

I dont think that many people really rate CS , he looked good in the super series but against lower calibre , won well but against a washed up groves . Apart from that who has fought of any real note .. well nobody .
He should have had a fight against another top level contender before Canelo really but €€€€

Canelo and his team will have studied the ryder fight and seen his weaknesses on the inside .
Tough night for Smith I feel !

Press Release | Canelo – Smith undercard: Castro, Pacheco, Espino and Williams

Marc Castro, Diego Pacheco, Alexis Espino, and Austin Williams will perform on the biggest of stages on the undercard of the World title clash between Canelo Alvarez vs. Callum Smith at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, December 19, live on DAZN in 200+ countries and territories worldwide and TV Azteca in Mexico.

The third time lucky for Castro as the amateur sensation makes his professional debut after false starts in Tulsa and Florida. The Fresno talent amassed a 177-7 record in the amateur code and won countless titles worldwide, and now the 21-year-old will finally step through the ropes, having missed out in Oklahoma due to COVID and in Hollywood with an ankle sprain.

“It’s been a crazy year, but I’m ready to get my pro career started on one of the best cards of the year, God willing,” said Castro. “The positive COVID result and the ankle injury were just little setbacks that I have fully recovered from, and I cannot wait to get started in the pros on December 19.”

Pacheco (10-0 8 KOs) moved into double figures in Mexico City in October with his eighth stoppage win – and the powerful and rangy teen takes another big step on his pro journey, with his first eight-rounder against Rodolfo Gomez Jr (14-4-1 10 KOs) in Texas.

“I’m pleased and excited that I get to close out the year on the biggest show of the year,” said Pacheco. “I’m moving up to eight rounds, which is exciting for me, and I really hope I can push on and on from here into 2021.”

Espino (6-0 4 KOs) completes the trio of Mexican-American Matchroom talents on the card, and the 20-year-old will fight for the seventh time in the paid ranks in Texas against Ashton Sykes (5-3 1 KO) and for the first time since fighting in the Lone Star state in February.

“I’m so excited for the opportunity to be on the biggest card of the year,” said Espino. “I’ve been working harder than ever, and I’m ready to put on a great show.”

‘Ammo’ Williams (6-0 5 KOs) recorded his fifth KO win from six pro-outings in Mexico City alongside Pacheco. The Houston native faces Isaiah Jones (9-3 3 KOs) in his home state for the second time, having fought in Arlington in June 2019.

“2020 was the toughest and most unexpected year of my life,” said Williams. “I was tested mentally, physically, and emotionally but I overcame all my trials! Now I get to put a guy to sleep on the biggest card of the year! Hard work, faith, and dedication always pay off!”

Castro, Pacheco, Espino, and Williams take their place on a blockbuster night, topped by Canelo (53-2-1 36 KOs) challenging Smith (27-0 19 KOs) for the Briton’s WBA and Ring Magazine World Super-Middleweight titles, and exciting Mexican pocket powerhouse Julio Cesar Martinez (17-1 13 KOs) defends his WBC World Flyweight title against Francisco Rodriguez Jr (33-4-1 24 KOs) – with more action to be added.

Press Release | Canelo Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - Vacant WBC Title Now at Stake

Matchroom and Canelo Promotions have announced that the WBC World Super-Middleweight title will be on the line when Canelo Alvarez and Callum Smith clash at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday December 19, live on DAZN in 200+ countries and territories worldwide and on TV Azteca in Mexico.

Canelo (53-1-2 36 KOs) once again reaches for greatness as he challenges the WBA Super, Ring Magazine and world number one rated Super-Middleweight Smith (27-0 19 KOs) in Texas, and the addition of the WBC title adds more greatness and glamour to an already monstrous fight.

Both men have won WBC straps before, with Canelo winning belts at Super-Welterweight and Middleweight and Smith landing the WBC Diamond belt at 168lbs, and the winner on December 19 will be ordered to face WBC #2 ranked Avni Yildrim within 90 days.

“The WBC is extremely proud to have such tremendous fight for the vacant WBC Super-Middleweight title,” said WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman. “Canelo and Callum will give the world a superb closing of a difficult year and will make fans from around the world celebrate with much entertainment and enjoyment. I would like to personally praise Avni Yildirim for his exemplary collaboration to make this a reality.”

“I am delighted that the winner of this fight will be crowned the WBC World champion at 168lbs,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Canelo Alvarez is the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet, and Callum Smith is the number one Super-Middleweight on the planet – so it is fitting for the winner to proudly wear the green and gold belt on December 19."

If Smith fights like he did against Groves never coming over the front foot and using his height and reach then I think he will cause Canelo problems.
