I’ve always thought Groves is very intelligent.

Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
it's where a guy called tris talks to people about their lives in boxing, tris has reached gawd levels with this podcast
Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
I've downloaded but 3 and a half hours seems a bit daunting. Got a long shift tomorrow so I'll give it a go.
Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
Agreed. No boxer is interesting enough to listen to for over two hours.Stanny Onis wrote: ↑25 Nov 2020, 17:30 They are too long imo, most are 2 hours.
About 45 mins would be perfect for me
Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
Haven't finished the Groves one yet (about 2 hours in) and it is excellent. Groves goes in to detail about the Booth spilt, having never given such detail before. It's an interesting insight as on one hand he seems to respect Booth's coaching ability and talks of training with him fondly, but on the other hand he goes into his character and suggests that Booth was quite controlling. Plus 25% management fee - is that the norm?
Great listen.
Great listen.

Did Tris leave you for another woman or something?
Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
I'd politely disagree - I was surprised to see how long it was and thought I'd listen to it over a week or so, but as with the best books, time flew by. All depends on the subject- I've always been a massive Benn fan, but his was boring and I tuned out in less than an hour, while despite supporting Froch when they fought I found Groves compelling, honest and insightful. Definitely went up in my estimation.Jimmy2020 wrote: ↑04 Dec 2020, 04:03Agreed. I'm sure it's good for most. I just don't have a long attention span for such things. I can't even watch a film. 30 minute sittings is my limit for most things.Deserter wrote: ↑04 Dec 2020, 05:52I'd politely disagree - I was surprised to see how long it was and thought I'd listen to it over a week or so, but as with the best books, time flew by. Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
For me, the fact the pods are longer and more in-depth is part of what makes them different and interesting. There are already loads of 45min interviews with quite a few of the people elsewhere online already. I think if he cut them down to that length you'd just end up hearing the same stuff you've heard before in a lot of cases.
Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
Fair enough mate - for what it's worth I think it's easy to break them down i.e. think of Groves as a 6-part series of 30 mins each.Jimmy2020 wrote: ↑04 Dec 2020, 06:05I'm sure it's good for most. The Groves one is really good. It's obviously long but none of it is particularly wasted.
Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
Those towers ones made me cringe, he didnt seem like he had changed from the past, it was full of 'he looked at me funny and i kicked his head in' stuff, like those dodgy gangster books. There was one part when he mentioned he started on a bloke, tris tried to move on, and Towers had to go back to it to confirm that he kicked his head in.

Really enjoyed the George Groves one - he came across really well. He made a remarkable revelation about Fitzpatrick.
Re: Boxing Life Stories - I'm calling it now
Thought that myself, he just comes across as a not very nice man. The things he said he teaches his kid was just straight up alarming.blanca wrote: ↑04 Dec 2020, 12:52Those towers ones made me cringe, he didnt seem like he had changed from the past, it was full of 'he looked at me funny and i kicked his head in' stuff, like those dodgy gangster books. Just finished the George Groves one. Took me a whole day pausing and playing it in work. Never realised just how smart a fella he was. Unflinchingly honest and some good technical analysis, top marks from me.

George seems like a clever lad, will give it a listen.Delta Jay wrote: ↑04 Dec 2020, 13:40Thought that myself, he just comes across as a not very nice man.
