A lot of b-level matchups that, nevertheless, kept me coming back every week to watch!
I'd back that along with Friday Night Fights.
And combine the commentary teams. Teddy Atlas and Sean O'Grady
Yeah I got a lot of enjoyment of both of those series'.
I kick myself for not watching Tuesday Night Fights more as a little boy. I only watched it maybe twice in all those years, but I did buy the Tuesday Night Fights Knockouts DVD set. I've since sold it, but I watched it a lot before I did so the memories are burned in.
I remember Sean once talked about going to the movies to watch Nightmare on Elm Street... and I cared because as a fan, I like hearing from the boxers bits about their life like (mostly) women who read gossip magazines (many times) to find out what soda brand or car their stars enjoy.
Sean and Al kept the show interesting by also talking about other things.
If there is a one off match that will have great ratings, maybe.
But ratings were down on boxing and so that's why they got out of the business.
So, no time soon.
Stepping away from the focus on the ring, HBO has always been a profitable business. John K. Billock is the top man at HBO, it's up to him. With the disappearance of top American talent in the divisions Americans like to watch, ( Apologies to Crawford, fight somebody please ) HBO is going to have to make a deals with promoters to display their talent. That's problem #1.
Problem #2 is their most famous broadcasters are either old or deceased.
Problem #3 is boxing itself. The right matches are seldom made.
I just don't see a comeback on HBO boxing anytime soon.
