It's not harsh on Smith. He couldn't/didn't do anything all night.
He looks like he did when he walked out.

Canelo is a once in a generation fighter. A true elite fighter, cant see anyone beating him from SWW to LHW.

Smith got dominated. No big effort by him. Shades of lil Chavez. I gave Smith only the 8th.

It's all about levels, you can't box on the backfoot against Alvarez with slow footwork because all he did was close him down and throw basic shots and win every round. I don't think Callum could have gone out on his 'shield' without getting KO'd within 30 seconds but he showed grit, heart - I think Canelo broke his nose in the ninth round with that uppercut so - he stuck it out to lose on points.

What's worse is how much boxing has regressed - could you imagine 1985 Thomas Hearns having trouble with either of these for a few rounds? Chavez and how he closed his opponents off with bodyshots and combinations - he was mesmerising to watch - the way HE totally broke down Edwin Rosario - who was a class boxer himself - and he just dismantled him. If we're going to knock Smith, then we should knock Canelo because compared to the no.1's of the past, he doesn't set the world alight either.

Yeah, he's the best around now but so what! Meh!

Canelo doesn't beat the elite LHWs does he ?
I say Beterbiev, Bivol are good enough to be too big - unlike Smith and past-it Kov.

No, a proper world class light heavyweight would pose big problems! Canelo looked tiny even against Smith.

Smith likely to move up to LHW but what isnhe gonna do? European level at best, will come up short against the likes of Beterbiev.

He lost to Mayweather and Golovkin, but he is the best right now. When Smith had momentum after beating Groves I really fancied him to beat Canelo, but that was a good while ago and he did look weaker, regardless of how well Canelo took his shots.

But I've no idea if he's lost a bit of pep making weight, or if the power was still there and he simply wasn't committing fully.
