He’s not being underrated the man is a great fighter, Let’s keep things in perspective though. He got played with by Mayweather, he arguably lost both fights against Golovkin (no question he lost the first) and a lot of people thought he was lucky to get the decision against Lara.
He was very inexperienced and young with Floyd, who is an all time great. I thought him and GGG shared one each. Lara was a nightmare for anyone. Just shows how far Smith is from the top guys.

Hearn: Smith Had Detached Bicep in Second or Third - But it Didn't Really Matter

"You just saw the pound-for-pound king. Callum Smith is so tough. I think he detached his bicep in the second or third round but it didn't really matter. It was a masterclass from Canelo. I just left Smith's changing room and everyone is talking about Alvarez. He's just so good," Hearn told BBC Radio

"I'm proud of Callum. He never stopped throwing but he came up against the best fighter on the planet."

I love Tommy Hearns but Alvarez beats him. The fighter profile of Alvarez is too much for Hearns. Durable, skilled, great body puncher. Tommy would be way ahead on points when Alvarez caught up with him.

How did Alvarez's hand speed improve so dramatically. Never seen it before. I've seen hand speed develop by a few percentage points through training. But Canelo's hand speed is now like night and day to the guy who beat Matthew Hatton.

Cant fault Smith's heart but he was well beaten tonight by a great fighter in his prime, i agreed with the 117-111 card but could've been a whitewash TBH, Canelo was dominant and landed hard clean shots all night, had no issues outjabbing the much taller man and they were hurtful jabs, sunk in hard shots to the body, uppercuts through the middle and walked Smith down for 12 rounds, Smith never really looked like he believed he could compete with Alvarez, jab wasn't assertive enough, his best shot all night was probably his own right uppercut but again he couldn't make a dent in Canelo whos defence was class in all fairness, not just the high guard but the cute head movement on the rare occasions Smith would drop the right hand

Canelo got more and more dominant every round, pressured Smith cut the ring off battered his body and hurt him a few times, credit to Smith for going 12 hard rounds with the best fighter on the planet but i just feel he didnt fight his best fight, easier said than done but he never used his attributes, a stiff busy jab might have helped keep Canelo at bay but in saying that ive no doubt Canelo still wouldve won

Hearns in his prime vs Canelo in his prime - wouldn't get to the later rounds because Canelo's head would be in Rhode Island somewhere. :oo

Of course, there are versions of both fighters - would light heavy Hearns - the one that was KO'd by Iran Barkley survive 12 rounds with Alvarez? Maybe not but he stands a chance! He wouldn't be walking down Hearns like he did Smith that's for sure! :TU:

Canelo`s chin is amazing. Has he ever been visibly hurt in any fight. Smith actually landed some beautiful shots and showed a great chin himself but the punches just bounced of Canelo with no effect. What a fighter, terrific head movement and a master defensively.

If Saunders is in tip top shape maybe he could outbox him, but I cant see him keeping Canelo off for the full 12 rounds.

Liam put up a better fight.
Liam is a fcuking game fighter mate, always coming forward with decent output and digs in even when outclassed. Him and Munguia was a fun watch.
Yeah I actually saw that for the first time the other week, Liams got massive balls

Hes always had quick hands.

Hearns was on an entirely different level to callum smith, he was a great boxer as well as a big puncher.

Not seen if yet, but I concur, canelos chin is like a butcher's block, never seen him remotely close to hurt.

Saunders would be running for his life the last half of the fight. Canelo is too good for saunders to nullify him.

You think? Maybe. I think he's absolutely awesome. Easily p4p best.
By some. I think his defence is brilliant, very imposing physically, great boxing brain, brilliant chin. He’s got the lot.
:TU:

A phrase comes to my mind now and then with a certain class of fighter, that they’re as good as it’s possible to be without actually being (eg) Mayweather level. I’d apply it to Canelo.

Canelo is in a class of his own at the moment. He's that good I'd favour him to beat a few of the names on Boxrecs top 20 HW list.

Ropes kept him up. He was young at the time and finished him soon after.

I thought Callum did ok, he kept throwing his shots and landed some good combos and kept going to the final bell despite Joe offering him a compassionate way out. Man does Canelo have a good chin though, he never once looked even slightly bothered at anything Callum landed.

Strange night though - a virtual Buffer, a mariachi rendition of the final countdown complete with a full dance troupe, identical triplets singing the Stars and Stripes to 12000 Mexicans, a random firework display and Canelo resembling a Roman emperor.

I’m sure Canelo wouldn’t have been stopped because he really does seem to have a granite chin, but imo he would have lost every round against a fit Calzaghe and looked awful in the process. Style just completely wrong for Canelo.

Smith def did ok, he dared to dream and stepped up to the plate and deserves a lot of credit.

At the end of the day boxing is about levels.

While I think JC could well beat Canelo the Welshman never really dared to dream and this is the black mark against his legacy

I know it's a cliched 'styles make fights' point, but I'd be more confident of Hearns beating Mayweather than Canelo. I agree Canelo presents a lot of problems for Hearns and could see him winning.
