He’s always been a big guy. When he was catchweighting at 155, he was what? 23-25 years old? He probably used to enter the ring over 170 anyway.. he’s just been good at cutting weight. And he’s obviously put on natural weight as he’s grown. He’s what now? 29 years old?

It's hard not to think hes juiced to the gills. Hes ripped at 168. Great fighter either way, and if so, hes hardly the only one.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 11:07 Alvarez unbeatable just now, like a tank.. he looks like a red haired Mike Tyson these days..that neck

bodywise how shoild he look different bulking up and training like a maniac all year but his face looks like he's wearing a subtly distorted rubber mask of himself.

Hearns power was a force of nature though, and he had great movement. Canelo would have had to take a lot of shots before he could put pressure on hearns.J-C wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 09:44I know it's a cliched 'styles make fights' point, but I'd be more confident of Hearns beating Mayweather than Canelo. I agree Canelo presents a lot of problems for Hearns and could see him winning.Fray Bentos wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 06:53Hearns in his prime vs Canelo in his prime - wouldn't get to the later rounds because Canelo's head would be in Rhode Island somewhere.![]()
Of course, there are versions of both fighters - would light heavy Hearns - the one that was KO'd by Iran Barkley survive 12 rounds with Alvarez? Maybe not but he stands a chance! He wouldn't be walking down Hearns like he did Smith that's for sure!
Canelo does seem to have one hell of a chin mind you. Maybe McCall level.

Very hard to add solid muscle like that without body fat.adislav123 wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 11:30 bodywise how shoild he look different bulking up and training like a maniac all year but his face looks like he's wearing a subtly distorted rubber mask of himself.

Callum has torn his tricep, just spoke to
Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - 19 December 2020
Most were saying Callum was going to fold from a bodyshot , so from that respect he deserves credit as some of them looked like rib crunchers .
It was a painful watch really , maybe the first round to Smith and the rest was pretty much one way traffic .
Smith is one tough Mother to stand up to the punishment he did .
Canelo ped cheat aside looks like a really respectful fella and conducts himself really well and as others have said is about as complete a boxer you can get ,got the lot , fantastic defence , great jab , power of a bull .
Who beats him amongst the current crop ?

Exactly. It’s not made him the fighter he is. He’s done that. Top fighter of the times. Always amazes me how easily Floyd outboxed him.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 11:24It's hard not to think hes juiced to the gills. Hes ripped at 168. Looking at his house and cars and quality of shows he’s been putting on, I’m sure he can manage a quid.jameswilson wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 12:45I doubt he can afford the stamp to send a letter to request that.mickey1975 wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 12:16 I hope Fwank has had a copy of the x ray to excuse his crap effort.

Canelo beat up Smith with ease - I mean it as no disrespect to Smith - Canelo was clearly not the least bit challenged in there.Callum Smith is so tough. I think he detached his bicep in the second or third round but it didn't really matter.
I dont speak Spanish - but it looked early on that Canelo`s corner were indicating to hit Smiths arms, and Canelo was certainly bashing the left bicep area at every opportunity ... wasnt that what Rocky Marciano would intentionally do to minimise the jab and bring down an opponents arms. The damaged bicep was not in any way a freak injury.

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - 19 December 2020
I think Canelo must have cut a tonne of weight to make 147, but even at 175 he looked rock solid.
Like I said, theres loads of fighters at it, and I would be astonished if hes not frankly. However, it's his skills that are enabling him to win, not just his brute strength.
The fact he just brutalized Smith, is pretty remarkable.
If the current crop of heavyweights weren't so big, I'd not be surprised if he had a pop at heavy. Sounds mental I know, but both his defences and chin are really very good.
In fact, I still reckon he might fancy a pop at it at the end of his career.

Yeah Let’s call a spade a spade he looks juiced up, but you start to wonder who isn’t… Triple G looked it on Friday night.
Someone mentioned Marvin Hagler the other day which shocked me but… God knows
At least Callum doesn’t ..

Yes you’re probably right, was that why Smith was grinning at Canelo in the 11th round indicating his arm ..

Four fights in three years before last night, it's not enough for a fighter of his ability. He doesn't sell sack loads of tickets or PPVs so he's barely had a look in. You need a competitive warm up fight before you go in with one of the top P4P boxers. Not a years worth of inactivity. His career is being completely mismanaged. A terrible waste.DrDuke wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 03:20He wasn't that inactive before Ryder. He had a regular schedule of the nowadays' champion.Black Sam Bellamy wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 03:09 Smith has regressed due to inactivity imo. It started in the Ryder fight, continues here. He's spent too much time sitting on the sidelines waiting for the stadium fight. Poor management for me.
Anyway, the Ryder bout kinda exposed him indeed. Without it Smith would have looked as a more challenging matchup for Canelo.
And after a such effortless performance Smith now will be considered as sh!t by many.
Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - 19 December 2020
His corner would tap his left bicep in the corner as giving instruction; Id assumed they were merely indicating to use the left; then in the 12rnd Canelo tapped his left bicep, smiled, and said something to Smith ... when they showed Smith walking to the changing room with the swollen left bicep on show it seemed to confirm Canelo was aware of the damage he was inflicting.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 13:30deliveringtonyevs wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 13:14Canelo beat up Smith with ease - I mean it as no disrespect to Smith - Canelo was clearly not the least bit challenged in there.Callum Smith is so tough. You see the training clips of Canelo on the big pad and heavy bags just repetitively delivering perfectly delivered single power punches. The sound of Canelo`s right hand punches as they hit Smiths arms indicated they must have been like a hammer blow. It really was a methodical break down he put on Smith.
Canelo seems to have been around forever, yet he is only 30 yrs old. He has operated at the highest level now for over 10 years, and yet in the corner he was 100% focused and listening to instructions ... there does not seem to be the arrogance you see in other world champions corners.

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Callum Smith - 19 December 2020
One of the worst things about great fighters juicing is that anytime they fight without testing afterwards i need to assume they're on it still, especially when they put in a dominant performance like Canelo did last night, I'd imagine at least 60% dont juice again after getting popped but who knows, truth is though no juice can help you show the skills Canelo showed last night, rarely wastes a punch and lands with venom, he might not be a KO artist but even the guys who last 12 feel they shots such is the delivery and precision
One thing Canelo doesn't get enough praise for is his defence, his chins solid but he barely gets hit clean ever, certainty not with the shots that should be knocking him out, his guards always high and he doesnt look like he has much head movement but he rides the shots, that quick turn of the head to take the sting out cant be helped by contaminated beef
