Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
I know you guys always say that weight classes are there for a reason but Canelo has had a Pacquiao (08-10) type of momentum. He could aim to be the first former super welterweight to win a heavyweight title. The first mexican to win a heavyweight title. The first latin american born (if you don't count Luis Ortiz's interim title) to win a heavyweight title. Roy Jones was able to do it against #5 Ring Magazine ranked John Ruiz. Now Saul Alvarez is no Roy Jones but Manuel Charr is no John Ruiz and far from a top 15 heavyweight. Especially with over 3 years of inactivity.
Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
There you go! That's thinking outside the box! Why not!

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
I’d watch it.
Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
Canelo would make Charr look foolish.
You can guarentee that his team have at least considered this....

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
Canelo spars with heavies so it would be theoretically possible.
Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
Why Charr though ?
He hasn't fought in 3 years and why would that particular fight buy Canelo any juice ?
Not against this type of thing but perhaps the bar needs to be raised a little higher.

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
Can't see how that furthers his career.
Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
He should consider a one off against one of the Cruiserweight champions if he can get it.
The significance is Roy Jones Jr leaped over that weight class on route to Ruiz at Heavyweight, he revisited it at an older age but never fought there in his prime.
I'd use that angle if I was Canelo, can he do it though ?
That would buy Alvarez some serious respect were he to pull it off.

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
anyone think canelo beats briedis?
Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
Makabu has the WBC Cruiserweight strap, 28-2, he's 33 years old from the Congo, give the guy a one off shot at the big time and spread the wealth a bit against Canelo.
A win for either opens up avenues for everyone, a Briedis unification fight automatically becomes bigger no matter who prevails.
It's a win win all round.
Someone just has to take the leap of faith and that will have to be Canelo.

Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
Charr sucks enough for being smashed by a good little guy. I'd watch this.
Re: Saul Alvarez vs Manuel Charr
No.

Andy Ruiz Jr is the first Mexican to win an HW title.halfamill wrote: ↑22 Dec 2020, 19:21 I know you guys always say that weight classes are there for a reason but Canelo has had a Pacquiao (08-10) type of momentum. He can beat most LHWs - he’s proven that - but the best are surely too big/good or both.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑23 Dec 2020, 04:52Perhaps you’re right, but during June 2019, people from this forum were saying Callum Smith was far too big and good for Canelo.

How real? I stopped paying attention to straps long ago and Ruiz was obviously far more legit than Charr, but if we're going the 'real' route it was clearly Lennox.

I meant the WBA belt. It was the actual WBA belt. There was no Regular or Interim.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑23 Dec 2020, 07:30How real? I stopped paying attention to straps long ago and Ruiz was obviously far more legit than Charr, but if we're going the 'real' route it was clearly Lennox.
Kinda how Haye was a true WBA champion too.

Canelo could potentially beat a john Ruiz level guy too, all it would mean is he’s a contender in the division.
