There was but they agreed to take it arbitration. In the meantime Fury could have fought, but due to not being able to make the PPV work stateside (lining Arums pockets?) it was cancelled.MarkMcBurney wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 07:20
I thought there was a legal challenge by Wilder over the third fight which put the kibosh on December?

Getting Espn, BT, Arum, MTK and Frank to sort everything out in a few weeks was just not working. Fury definitely wanted to box. AJ-Pulev was already agreed long before so easier to put in place.

If he genuinely believes that you should be active then why didn’t he fight in December? Of course it wouldn’t have been a massive payday compared to some of his other fights but it would have blown off the cobwebs a little bit and he would have pocketed several million.
I fully agree by the way that to get the best out of fighters they need to be active but it seems like Tyson had the opportunity.
It appears that when it came to the crunch though his team of promoters couldn't make the PPV work and there was no money to be made. Fight off
FW and Bob work for Tyson so if he genuinely wanted it to happen (and get paid something like £5m) then I’m still struggling to understand why it didn’t happen.

Don’t want to sound wise after the event, but I never really rated Warrington and always expected him to get walked through at world level. In fact, yesterday was exactly how I thought the Selby fight would go (although admittedly Selby has looked poor for quite a few years now).
Typically, just when Josh was winning me over and convincing me that he might be a force at world level after all, he gets walked through

Exactly what it was.. just the wrong end.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Mauricio Lara - 13 February 2021
Just watched the fight - and maybe it was with hindsight of the result. But .. from the first round you could see Lara`s body shots were hurting Warrington.
Warrington reminded me how John Davison just got old in his fight with Steve Robinson; for those type of fighters it often does happen all of a sudden.
If they do rematch - I dont see Warrington fairing any better. His punches did not bother Lara once. Lara would just walk him down again - and probably quicker next time too.
Very brave showing from Warrington; unfortunately his style of fighting, and lack of punch was perfect for Lara`s face first heavy punching style.

More Reactions
Joe Gallagher - Absolutely gutted for @J_Warrington & his team . Boxing in this lockdown is dangerous no crowd for fighters who used to it , cannot get right sparring in especially when fighting Americans & Mexicans different rhythm .hope Josh is ok
Congrats to Lara who fought 4 times last year in lockdown and been sparring World Champions . Took his opportunity and most probably feels hard done by not flying home with the World Title
Josh Taylor - I really hope josh Warrington is ok after that, he’s a real top lad. In my opinion that fight should have been stopped that first knockdown, he took a lot of heavy shots & looked hurt for a big duration of the fight. This is a big reminder to never underestimate your opponent.
Paul Smith - Just said on air on @DAZNBoxing how Warrington fought on after the 4th was so brave. But he was concussed. On autopilot. Never recovered and wasn’t doing a thing but taking more damage! Crazy night of boxing
Anyone else, anywhere else, in any other situation (apart from Josh Warrington just vacated his belt) that would have been stopped at the end of the 4th. Very very least at the start of the fifth when it was clear he hadn’t recovered at all. I hope he’s ok
Tony Bellew - Boxing is so so HARD!! Never forget this people... The most brutal sport in the world..
Jamel Herring - Tough break for Warrington, but you never wanna see any fighter go out like that. I just hope he can recover in the long run.
Kal Yafai - Concussed after the 1st knockdown. Should of been pulled out. Hope he’s ok.
Enzo Maccarinelli - Warrington is the one fighter that not having a crowd will effect more than most but no excuses on his performance Lara came to win showed power from the start and when you feel that power you box different
Anthony Fowler - Sad to see that there, gutted for Warrington after giving up his belt he’s had a nightmare, I don’t know what went wrong but he didn’t look right from the start, he needs that rematch with a crowd
Sunny Edwards - Devastated honestly for Josh there. Styles make fights, Lara looked seriously heavy handed and how Josh recovered and won rounds after that 4th il never know. Biggest heart in British boxing
Chris Billam-Smith - Pretty sure I heard the corner say "his eyes look glazed" right in front of Josh and he just sat there and didn't say anything. This was a few rounds before the finish!
Richard Riakporhe - Warrington looked concussed from very early on in the fight and should be checked thoroughly. Respect to Lara for alerting the medics to check on our man.

Gallagher raises an interesting point.
The UK being a small island. We’re in a pandemic. Can’t get quality sparring.
Lara fought 4 times last year as well. Very active.

Oh Howard Foster ...
What a colossal f*ck-up, that was even worse than that idiot holding up cleverly against Kov.
Josh took an inhuman amount of punishment there, because there is no way a human being can cope with punishment like that, round after round, after being knocked senseless in the fourth.
Hometown refereeing doesn’t come any more dangerous than that.
What were those two idiots watching ringside ? Both of them confused why Josh wasn’t going for it early, when he was clearly badly shaken by that uppercut in the first round.
Smith in the 7th, how are you scoring this Matt ?
Macklin: ......pause..........er I’m not scoring it ?
Just about sums up the level of sky commentary.

I agree with you, but it kind of got brushed under the carpet. The whole Fury/Wilder trilogy and subsequent December fight was a complete mess.maverick23 wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 07:55

The December fight did not happen due PPV issues in the states (they had no confidence in selling it) - It has been reported on enough times. There's a lot of people in the pot wanting their slice when Fury fights.
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Mauricio Lara - 13 February 2021
I genuinely thought it was a ten rounder, given that it was a non-title fight, thought I heard it or read it somewhere. Anyway, academic as it turns out!
Re: Round-by-Round: Josh Warrington vs. Mauricio Lara - 13 February 2021
I'm pretty sure Fury would have fought if he could. There were other factors at work. Probably, if you're going to fight Fury, you'll want to be sufficiently re-numerated, but I expect his team wouldn't cough up the funds for what would have been a non PPV tick over. He was announcing the fight himself on social media when none of his management team seemed to be doing anything, so I do believe he really wanted to fight.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑14 Feb 2021, 10:35I agree with you, but it kind of got brushed under the carpet. Just watched it now. Warrington wasn't boxing as well as he has done, no defence. It should have been stopped in the fourth, he wasn't right after that.

Yeah it was a good fight up until the fourth round, then it’s very painful viewing.

So glad to get boxing back again. I always wondered why we need a 5 or 6 week break in this country and it ain't down to the pandemic because it's been that way for years now .
