He was going to yes.

He vacated after the fight was made.

Lara will feel he should have walked away with a world title.
Can't see why he just didn't defend then, may have made a few extra quid for a defence.
The orgs take their cut from both guys so less money. It would have sold belt or no belt. Don't forget, from Josh's team perspective, this was a warm up stay busy fight.

Howard Foster probably didn’t get out of bed today.
OK just watched it. It certainly wasn't boring! How on Earth does Foster justify letting Warrington fight on after the 4th yet he stopped Groves on his feet as soon as he looked hurt in Froch 1?

Personally I think waving it off in the 4th would have been appropriate, but fighters do come back...

Not in this case, though. I've never been much of a Warrington fan and haven't really followed his career (like I say to my best mate when we have a beer together and talk boxing: unlike him who follows most of the lower weights I can't really get up for little midget English fighters: they're almost never really world class and always end up beat by a foreign fighter who I haven't heard of).

Anyway, boxing is boxing and I enjoyed it. Thanks for the link guys.

Cracking fight :box:

Usual over reaction from the Skysports burkes.

It's not the first time we've seen an unheralded Mexican rip the win away from the favourite.

Lara's power proved decisive on the night but Warrington got in with some good punches and didn't look flat to me (like the Sky team observed). Josh just struggled with the style and power of Lara.

Great sportsmanship throughout the contest and exceptional class from Lara after his career best win to halt his celebrations and show concern for Warrington :salut:

Gutted for Warrington, but hopefully he can come back from the experience when he's healed.

Although it's one of boxing's bad habits, one loss after 30 straight wins doesn't cancel out all the good victories. Josh wasn't beaten by a numpty in a six rounder, it was at world level in a hard fought contest.

You're onto something there. A little dark skinned skinny midget GGG. He does look a bit like him, yeah.

This bumped Lara into the top #5 on boxrec which is nice.
No belt, but recognition of his accomplishment at least.
Still a little stunned he is only 22, probably not even got his man strength yet. Hope he gets a better payday in the future - I'll be watching :TU:

Wonder if that was caused by that huge uppercut Lara landed in the early going :maybe:

You know ,, sometimes when coaching , I would say to a lad ,, and said it on more than one occasion , STOP pissing about , stop boxing pretty , just get out there and stick your right hand on his nose , and your left hook on his chin , put the bugger away , he can't take your power so get out there and belt him .

And thats excatly what the mexican did , he relized early he could hurt JW , but more importantly he KNEW Jw could'nt hurt him , so he just came out and belted him .

Did Josh do a bad job NO Way , watch it again , Warrington fought very well , he shown some good skills , he shown a massive heart , he was fit ,,, BUT he just could'nt hurt the mexican and he was getting hurt himself ,, Brave effort from Warrington , but i suspect you would get the same result in a dozen rematches , probably earlier next time ,,, If he satys at this weight , i feel he will probably take a few more poundings from guys coming down in weight to that size , not like him going up ,,, Don't know how much money he's earnt , but if i was his manager i would be saying , get better lets chase a fight with Frampton ,, then a rematch with Galahad , make some dollars and get the hell out of Dallas , with your health still intact

If I were advising Warrington I'd tell him to wait for Lara to fight again. If Lara fights another name and fares well (despite his technical limitations), and Warrington fancies beating him in a rematch... Well then maybe he could avenge this and have a couple more good wins.

But as we've seen so many times, it's highly possible Lara caught him at the right time, isn't all that, and if he does poorly against someone else it should tell Warrington his time at the top's over. So let him fight again first as a guide. Prime-for-prime I felt Quigg was probably slightly better than Frampton and Warrington, but he lost his prime so young after the Frampton misfire. 30 at feather's like 40 at heavy.

Good post. Vernon Forrest said after the first fight with Mayorga that he had no choice but to stand and bang because Mayorga just wasn't respecting him. Mayorga might have had the best chin in boxing at that point as he would regularly offer his opponents a free chance to land their best punch on his chin. Josh was in the same position here in that he had no choice and was forced to simply stand and swing to gain the fellows respect. Josh Taylor was forced to do this to gain Prograis respect too. I thought that Josh landed some solid shots himself and judging by the fact that he was actually capable of going 5 more rounds with a more reserved style after being hurt in the 4th, I think there was a chance he could have adopted a more movement based approach and tried to nick the fight or get Lara robbed on the cards. I felt he was too "gung ho" as Jim Watt would say. After the first couple of rounds he could have moved more and been more reserved. If a rematch occurs we will see him moving a lot more but he will have to stand at times and make Lara respect him. He's been badly KO'd and that will leave scars. Forrest moved a lot but also fought scared in the Mayorga rematch, losing on points.
