Jobs for the boys isn't it! Doesn't matter how many fukk ups they make there's always an earner for them in the next week or so! A lot of the time it ruins my excitement building up to certain fights when I find out who's in charge etc...RKY wrote: ↑17 Aug 2018, 06:14 The BBBoC using the same bunch of officials every week. It's always a rotation of Ian JL, Terry Oconner, Howard Foser etc. All taking turns to judge or referee. Judging and refereeing are 2 different things - can they not afford to hire dedicated judges? You never see that crap in vegas? Did Mills Lane ever judge a few undercards before reffing the main event? Does the BBBoC not have enough money to fly in impartial judges? Why are these guys never held to account? The Fck ups I've seen over the years is enough to put together a comedy sketch. I once seen Ian John Lewis award a fighter 30 points in a 3-round prizefighter contest in which he was floored in the 2nd round. Terry O'Conner actually physically helped Nathan Cleverly back to his stool at the end of a round that Kovalev flattened him in. I could go on. But nothing ever happens. Grinds my gears.

Re: your pet peeves
there are too many fans who think
moving backwards + feinting around + pawing at air and jabbing from too far away to land = outboxing your opponent
to hear people describing lee selby as outboxing kambosos with the jab was maddening to me, lee mustve landed like 5 percent of them
it seems that ppl easily understand ineffective aggression when it comes to guys moving forward, but have more trouble understanding that a guy superficially 'boxing' can be equally as ineffective, and that he is not necessarly showing much skill or smarts just because he's negative

I saw a channel 5 show a few years ago and as it came on there was a warning 'this programme may contain violence' Can't remember which fight it was maybe someone on here remembers it ?GreenLightning wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 07:54 The apologies for the language is in case the fight gets repeated pre watershed

Interview he gave
“It’s a throwback to respect the tradition of the sport,” Diamante said. Growing up I loved it when guys did it. My two favourite announcers were Mark Bureau and Ed Derian and they didn’t do the huge fights, but they were great announcers. They would always repeat the surnames and I always loved that as a kid. It originally started many, many years ago. Back in the day that some of the loud speaker systems weren’t that great and guys would call out the name one side of the room and then do it to the other side. I just love the tradition of the sport. It is one of the things that I love about it. Boxing has such a great tradition. None of the announcers do it anymore and I loved it and I am going to keep that tradition going.”

The first time I noticed the fighters last names being repeated was the first Gatti-Ward fight....Controversial wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 08:18Interview he gave

Yeah I quite like it, good to keep old traditions going even when not strictly necessary.Controversial wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 08:18Interview he gave

Its good when you hear it once or twice but after a while it gets quite annoying I find, especially when he does it for every fight on the night. When you get to Josh Warrington, Warrington it starts to wear thin!Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 10:10Yeah I quite like it, good to keep old traditions going even when not strictly necessary.Controversial wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 08:18Interview he gave

What’s the point in a tradition that’s annoying because it’s now pointless?
If we always stuck to tradition we’d still be fighting till one man dropped, bare knuckle and with no medicals!

Re: your pet peeves
The casuals on youtube comments that think boxing is the same black dominated sport that 100 metres sprinting is. When it's far from the truth.. They have very outdated views, I came across some recently who thought Don King was still the best promoter in boxing
Baffles me how they talk about a sport they know very little about.

Probably been said already but I hate commentators saying challangers 'have to rip the belt away from the champion' like being champion means you don't have to fight as hard to keep it as when they won it in the first place ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

Re: your pet peeves
one thing to add --- people thinking that any round that isn't dominated is by default a swing round
a round can be uneventful, quiet, competitive, whatever......yet still be clear for someone
