Vasyl Lomachenko won the WBC Title in his fight prior to facing Teofimo. He was never defeated for that belt. I don't know what the f*ck belt Haney's got, but it's nonsense.
THIS IS CORRECT !

The WBC came up with the "franchise" idea similar to the WBA "super" belt. Its meant to free the champ from the obligation to fight the mandatory challenger so he can go for a big money fight. The sanctioning bodies benefit by getting a sanctioning fee from both the big money fight and the mandatory challenger's (now also a champ himself) next fights. It creates confusion such as the perception of Teo not being the champ after beating the champion.

Its the same as the super champ. Ill give you another example. Hopkins unified all the belts at 160 he lost to Taylor who lost to Pavlik who lost to Martinez. By the time Martinez fought Chavez he had been made the "diamond" champion. Chavez had the "regular" belt. Would you consider Martinez the challenger in that scenario?  Both the WBA "regular" belt and the WBC "regular" belt got demoted. The "super" and the "franchise" are their actual champions. I know its confusing and it sucks but its just how they made it.

Its not only a WBC thing. The WBA is doing the same thing. Gervontas belt is the regular one. Teo has the "super" belt.
They do that when the champ is so marketable that he can pick and choose fights. If they had to chose between the money fight and being stripped they would drop the belt in a second. Sanctioning bodies are aware so they elevated the champ to "super" and "franchise" status and just handed the regular belts to the mandatory challengers.

Another example Pacquiao won the "regular" belt against Mathysse but Thurman was the "super" champ. When he beat Thurman he became the top WBA champ if it makes sense. When Besputin beat Butaev he won the vacant "regular" belt. I didnt hear anyone claiming Pacquiao had to beat Besputin to be called the champ.

ya that's the thing, if teo actually is the highest guy in the wbc hierarchy, like being super champ to haney's regular champ, then you can defo make the case for undispiuted.

Does that mean Jarmall Charlo is not the WBC Middleweight Champion?

Because going by the WBC website Canelo is still the Middleweight Franchise champion...

Seems like theyre slow to update. Canelo anounced hes not going back to 160. One case where the franchise bullshit would be useful tho would be at 168. We wouldnt be wasting a fight of Canelo's prime on Yildrim if they were using it.
