like taylor and groves shots? kessler also sagged him and dirrell had him backpeddling

froch was not quite totally iron, he had a good chin but his recovery was as much or better than his ability not to get hurt in the first place

there is an upper elite of chins, like mccall, chuvalo, ggg, canelo etc where the guys arent even getting dropped or much rattled at all---those are the elite chin beasts. something like mariusz wach taking 12 rounds of flush klit shots without as much as wobbling

Eubank was only dropped on balance really, a chin doesn’t determine staying upright - core strength/balance does. Or in the Calzaghe KD case of Eubank - caught cold and not seeing punch coming.

Collins was the strongest of all - he walked THROUGH punches.

Greg George shoved him, Benn KD was a slip on water in the corner, Collins square-on push

The Tim Brown ‘KD’ on his debut was also a slip and not counted by ref, and the Armstrong Wilkerson ‘KD’ in Feb84 was also a shove/slip

Watson KD was a rabbit punch to one knee while concussed and exhausted. His head was always cleared almost instantly

Like Taylor and Groves, who both got stopped.

The only guy who ever looked like an inside the distance defeat might be on the cards against Froch was Andre Ward, but it didn't happen.

You would never, ever see Froch willingly look for the canvas like Eubank did against Watson.

yep, the guys who put him hard on his ass got stopped

as for a stoppage never looking on the cards.......Froch was really poggered by the groves shot and took a shellacking for a few rounds after, looking far more weary and gunshy than id ever seen him and getting stung a few more times. it wasnt like he just got dropped and then came back roaring straight off. i think it was only around the 5th when you could see him really getting some oomph and confidence to his work

at the time, in the first few rounds, i defo thought a stoppage wasnt unrealistic and it was all a bit shocking to watch.

You're making a case for Froch in saying that.

When did he ever slither to the canvas for a mercy count ?

not really , dude was seriously hurt and feeling it for a good few rounds after, should be pretty obvious to anyone watching. i defo think watching it at the time he looked in bad enough shape for a stoppage to be considered a real possibility. a stoppage never on the cards fight is more like one where a dude goes down but isnt hurt or recovers straight away

no doubt froch recovered well and had really good heart and stamina that came into it as well. i do think he got hurt in the first place a bit easier than often depicted though

The 6th round of the first Groves fight is proof beyond doubt that Froch can hold a punch with the best of them, and better than Eubank. Eye popping viewing :oo

nah, there is a tier of dudes who are so tough that they are pretty much undentable. provo, ggg, canelo, wach, etc among guys that competed at the same time as froch......none of these dudes been down or ever looked in too much trouble. if you arent even really hurt much or even put down, your recovery doesnt even need to come into it much like ffrochs did.

froch wasnt among those guys, he was the next best tier. abraham similar

GGG is something else :salut: Canelo rock solid (but sadly with some questions marks about what he's taking), Wach is as tough as old boots but it's Eubank Snr we're comparing against Froch and the way Froch puts it out there with unashamed confidence eclipses Eubanks.

Eubanks chose not to mix it up with the top Americans and really test those whiskers, but Froch did.

I'll concede Froch didn't offer it up against Abrahams, but come on, Artur was one of the strongest guys about. Other than that Froch was in the danger zone all the time.

you said his chin holds up with the best of them, that's what i was responding too, i think it's clear it wasnt at that same level where they could take shots with hardly being fazed, more like the next level of very good but not great

true eubank lacked an elite murican, but not sure any of them hit harder at 168 than benn did

I think it does hold up with them mentioned. Like Groves said "the thing is with Carl, you can hit him".

Froch can be hit but he was never stopped...and in better company than Eubank. Chris hid his durability away from the international thumps with maybe the exception of Rocchighiani...not a noted a puncher.

those guys dont go down or even get hurt really, different level, all very hard dudes with chin though

benn could hit as hard as any of them btw, being from another place doesnt make you a harder puncher

GGG and Canelo have much better defensive smarts than Froch. The little slips at the last second, catching the punches to take the sting out of them etc...Froch would tend to just take the punches flush.

Benn was a puncher, no question.

It's the facing top drawer opposition fight after fight that puts that chin to the test. Eubank singularly failed in this regard.

Froch's big befuddled moment came against the Son of God...Eubank's, Dan Schommer :shame:

Froch looked befuddled against Matthew Barney, not to mention Taylor and Dirrell.

Lindell Holmes certainly hit harder than Barkley or Toney and A LOT harder than Nunn. Huge banger. Rocchigiani wiped out Hamsho early with his power.

Although they struggled to land on Eubank.

Eubank Watson 1 was the first fight I ever watched live, when I was being child minded by my Mum's boyfriend's daughter. Back then, as a child, with no knowledge of boxing let alone scoring, I was annoyed when Eubank won.

Didn't watch boxing again until Tyson / Bruno 2.

Froch fought absolutely everybody. He took on the RJJ of his era in Ward (as much as I don't really like Ward, I respect his ring IQ and his general brilliance: despite all his Son of God shit that guy was a brutal nasty fighter through and through) and saw the last round, and fought every world class bloke around until he'd sold out Wembley. He took on the best of the best.

Eubank didn't.

I'll go with Froch.

Eubank lost to Steve Collins. Not only did he lose but he was intimidated and exposed mentally.

The thread is about who had the best chin.

The RJJ of his era?

RJJ had absolutely frightening punching ability, didn’t constantly hold, constantly run or constantly headbutt like fornicating Ward. That’s hugely insulting to RJJ. Ward was a tricky smart spoiler, without much of a punch.

Eubank fought tenfold more dangerous punchers than Carl Froch. Thornton and Wharton had many one-shot kayos coming up, Tony with that short right and Henry with that left hook. Logan laid out Hernandez - who stayed on his feet from Julian Jackson’s best - cold with his left hook; Eubank absorbed Logan’s best left hook in the 2nd.

McCallum on the same card as Logan’s horrible kayo of Hernandez was in just as much trouble as Hernandez was also in the 1st v Julian Jackson (Jackson was then stopped on his feet prematurely it seemed in the 2nd).
