Gibraltar 27 March - PPV

Post by rhino222 »

Come on Eddie, get your finger out son.

Less than 2 weeks until this PPV show. Only 2 fights scheduled so far. The Povetkin fight and the Cheeseman fight.

Simply not good enough if you want fans coughing up once again for what is a world title semi eliminator and a british title fight.

I have seen better championship bouts at the York hall and not that long ago either.

Yeah it’s pathetic - a PPV without a fvcking card. Anyone paying for it should be embarrassed for themselves.

3rd fight

With rising bills etc its not worth having a tv license these days and you can easily find other means to watch the same program and save 50-100 a month.

3 highly competively matched fights already, with heavyweight thunder for the main event. remember, anything can and will happen in heavyweight world boxing.

can't wait to watch live and exclusive on sky sports box office. got my twitter ready to tweet to sky sports about how much im enjoying it too

will be warming up with some WOW Hydrate beverages, eddie ifl interviews, and a quick read of 12 rounds to success

Doesn’t matter about the card. Hearn/Matchroom have had it in their heads that Whyte is a PPV star. His fights against anyone in the top 15 will be PPV from now on. Unfortunately.

Also, it’s due to Whyte’s purse demands. To give him what he wants, they NEED it to be a PPV, so the public can pay the rest of his purse.

So refuse his demands. What could he do if Eddie told him “listen Whyte you’re deluded, nobody sensible rates you, I’m gonna pay you a quarter of what you’re asking ,take it or leave it”

Povetkin LOOKS fine on the social media posts I have seen.

What’s happening internally after his covid only time will tell.

He was sparring with Magomed Majidov last week, so is clearly testing himself

Because regardless he knows people will STILL buy the PPV.. which they do.. especially if it’s a decent opponent. And probably earns more than he asks for. Also means more money for Hearn/Matchroom and Sky.

So business wise, why the fûck not.

He’s arguably the 3rd best BrItish HW.

I remember when he fought Parker. His base purse was £1m for that fight, that’s the most Matchroom we’re gonna pay him. Plus they had to pay Parker a decent amount for coming over as well.. Whyte wanted more than that, so it got put on PPV. So we the fans can pay his salary.

You’re right, it must make money or Eddie obvs wouldn’t do it. I’m just amazed that so many people buy it.

Do they release details of number of buys for fights or is it still all lumped in together in the accounts ?

Whether we like it or not Whyte is a PPV fighter in the U.K.

300k+ buys in the first fight against Povetkin. Same amount of buys in the US for the first Wilder/Fury. I know the price points are higher over there but their populations are 5 times the size and they’re regularly getting PPV shows doing 200k buys.

The fights on the undercard are good, it just feels like we’re missing a solid co-main.

It’s lumped together in their official accounts but Eddie often talks about buys and Adam Smith does occasionally too. Eddie will likely be on the high side with what he says but it’s unlikely he’d be claiming the shows did double what they actually did do as the fighters would be asking questions.

Boxing isn’t even a top 10 sport in the US.

It’s more popular in the UK, and as being a smaller country, it’s easier to get behind.

A really random fight has been added....

Nick Webb vs Erik Pfeifer

Will be a fairly fun fight but I don’t particularly rate either.

The Kane Baker and Wardley v Molina fights are still on and always were, the boxers social media had the poster on their pages almost as soon as the fight was moved to 27th March.

Feels like the First PPV card in a while where there’s been no women’s fight.

Be interesting to see Pfeifer. Decent amateur maybe chinny. Probably weighing him up as a possible future opponent for one of their heavies. He’s not a matchroom guy is he?

Also I think Campbell Hatton is on the bill
Pfeifer’s been sparring Whyte and will probably see it as a chance to get a fairly big fight if he wins.

I’m pretty sure AJ stopped him in the world championships which isn’t a good sign but let’s see.

Yeah - Campbell’s on there. Quite looking forward to seeing how good he is.
