My vote rivas out, whoever 16th is in..

I didnt think this fight should be sanctioned, Rivas vs Louis, an inactive journy man levle guy thats smaller than most decent cruiser weights... Louis has been stopped many times, twice in round 1, by sub standard opponents. So to me a round 3 RTD is a very bad performance (on paper i didnt watch it)...

That Louis wasn't Joe, but some taxi driver, so no change for Rivas.

I echo Josh's sentiment. If Rivas next outing is not against a live opponent he is going to slip

Rivas out. He is apparently no longer fighting at HW.

15 is vacant. No one earned it, yet.

I would really like to watch the fight before I vote. But just looking into this it's pretty ridiculous that this fight happened.

Rivas (10-0-0) already fought Louis (4-1-0) back in 2012.
Louis last fought in 2016.
Fast forward 5 years
Rivas (21-1-0) fights Louis (8-5-0), and Louis retires after the 3rd round.

To be honest, even without watching this fight first hand, I don't consider that a legitimate fight. Rivas has been inactive for 20 months, and now is looking to fight "bridgerweights" (read: low ranked heavyweights).

Drops out of the top 15 for me.

No change. Rivas' win saves him from being ejected basis inactivity, but it's not a good enough win to save him from giving way to the next unranked fighter who gets a win that justifes a place in the top 15.

Sorry Oog but you can't leave 15th place vacant, that's just silly. The only way that makes sense is if there were only 14 eligible fighters instead of over a thousand.

I accept it might not be obvious who to promote but that's why rankings are subjective.

Not silly. It's my vote. No one moves up. Rivas abandons the HW division.

I still can't see how you can leave it vacant. We aren't waiting for a title fight to determine who wears the crown, this is just one very ordinary placing. If we suddenly decided to expand the Boxrec Forum HW Ranking to Top 20 you wouldn't present your personal top 20 for consideration, showing 15 as vacant would you?

Incidentally Oogie, nothing to do with boxing but do you mind my asking, 'did you have to pay for your inoculation?' I say inoculation because I thought "jab" might be confusing :D

It was free. I'm not sure anyone in the states needs to pay (I'm pretty sure).

I'm pleased to hear that. The only reason I wondered (other than my being a nosy bastard of course) is that I know Uncle Sam isn't renown for distributing free medication. We hear a lot about 'Socialized Medicine' these days, maybe nothing like as much as you folks. I guess it makes sense though: There are enough people wanting to give it a swerve anyway, how much worse if they had to pay for it?

As you guys are discussing this, just thought I'd point our, that your reasoning doesn't actually match your vote.

No change = leaving Rivas at 14
which means Wallin would be pushed out the rankings by the next top 15 fighter, not Rivas...

Again, it's your vote, if you want Rivas at 14, that's all good. But he won't be pushed out anytime soon.

My vote.

Rivas out.

Long inactivity crowned by this joke of an opponent. I am ready to vote him back as soon as he gets a meaningful win under hes belt.

Wallin has earned his place in the top 15 with a recent and respectable win over Breazeale so his place is not under imminent threat. If you rate purely on who you think is the better fighter then for me it's Rivas, which is why I have him above Wallin, but there is also the question "What has he done lately?" Arguably Rivas should have been dropped due to inactivity, but the time to do that is not when he has a fight commitment lined up. It was a relatively weak opponent though so it doesn't provide a satisfactory answer that question and doesn't remove him from the firing line.

If Yoka had beaten say, Carlos Takam instead of Djeko, I would have voted to promote him into the top 15 along with Wallin, with Kabayel and Rivas losing their place. I don't see it as illogical that Rivas can be ranked ahead of Wallin based on ability / achievement while being next up for the guillotine as a result of not doing much recently, although I can understand why some would insist the lowest ranked has to make way.

Rivas is a good fighter considering the overall state of the division. Most positions could be decided with a roll of the dice.

It's a lot easier on a pc. Not so easy on a PS4 unless you know what I don't?

That doesn't mean the division is in poor shape. It's because it's highly competitive, or at least it would be if more of the buggers would actually fight each other. Of course that would involve them getting hit back and too many seem to regard that eventuality as something of an affront to their dignity.
