Yep I've said this many times, those KO punches don't always hurt, it's the ones that don't knock you out that hurt more. To be fair though Graham did say Jackson was the hardest puncher he fought..

I had to go to the hospital and there were some scary moments because I couldn’t remember a thing about the fight. Three or four hours later it all came back to me and that was a really powerful right hand shot. There were a lot of broken hearts in Britain that night, especially mine. Another extremely hard puncher was Lindell Holmes, who I outpointed in Sheffield, but nobody tops Jackson.

Strongest: Sanderline Williams in 1985. I remember him because he wore army trunks, but more so because his shots seemed to go right through me. I really had to move that night, because he hit so hard. I would still give punch power to Julian Jackson though. I have to because he knocked me out.

Graham's memory isn't too reliable. Ricky Stackhouse wore the army shorts (whom he stopped in eight rounds) and not Sanderline Williams.

Williams must have had a good chin. Stopped once in 15 losses including going the distance with punchers like Benn, Meclellan, Tony x2 and Caveman Lee

Hit him so hard he forgot his name lol, saying that he got the year right for Williams (1985) so maybe Williams wore army shorts too? If he actually meant Stackhouse that wasn't until 1987

Boxrec says McClellan had in down too. Holmes was a decent puncher though with 22KOs in 24 wins he fought Williams and Herol Graham also said Holmes was an 'extremely hard puncher'.

Graham Houston emigrated to Canada in the 1970s and reported on all the North American TV fights for Boxing News up to the early 1990s, when he joined Boxing Monthly. I can only assume that they didn't screen Holmes-Williams. The Curtis Parker fight with Ricky Stackhouse went the full 10 rounds and proved a surprisingly hard one for Parker, who finished with a bad cut and scraped home on the cards. A flash knockdown he scored late in the first round proved the difference.
Lindell Holmes was an excellent fighter but he wasn't particularly exciting.

Williams took Benn to a whole new level. The Londoner would never have beaten Doug DeWitt a fight later but for Williams.

I just read this in Sugar Ray Robinson's 1970 autobiography SUGAR RAY.

Concerning his first two fights with Jake LaMotta
first fight was in October 1942 ,Robinson's 36th pro fight (27 by KO)
(in which LaMotta had 10 pounds on him)
Sugar Ray Robinson was hitting LaMotta with so many punches his arms were getting weary (which rarely happened)
Robinson was thinking "Man, he has fall any moment now"

Yes cooper was a very good fighter, just not top class. He lost to every world champ he fought, ali twice, paterson and ingo koed him but he was v good indeed just a level down. Liston would have most likely inflicted career ending damage.

Once thing i would say though is i saw the first ali, cooper fight recently and cooper really was busting ali up inside, i think even without the knockdown he was probably on top which is interesting. Ali never a great infighter but he learned a lot by the time he got cooper in a title fight and handled henry easier,

where he comments the various fights he had seen at the California Athletic Club in San Fransico during his career.
