Modern Day "All-Time Heavyweight" Tournament
In light of the Superfight dvd coming out and with the upcoming Rocky Balboa movie being slightly based on this 1969 computer-fight, and of course, with all boxing fans wondering 'What If?' we are going to have a modern day Heavyweight tournament, with not only your votes and opinions to be in consideration, but with Title Boxing, a computer fight game based on BoxRec.com's record data in a best two out of three matches, we're going to see who is the All-Time Heavyweight champion.
The following men will be broken down into two groups: brawlers and boxers; brawlers vs brawlers etc so the top men from each tournament will go up against eachother---as they say styles make fights! The winner of course will be crowned the champion.
So here is the best of the brawlers/punchers (in my view): *
Jack Dempsey
Rocky Marciano
George Foreman
Max Baer
Joe Louis
James J. Jefferies
John L. Sullivan
Ingemar Johansson
Sonny Liston
Mike Tyson
Best of The Boxers/Tacticians: *
Ezzard Charles
Jersey Joe Walcott
Muhammad Ali
Gene Tunney
Lennox Lewis
Larry Holmes
James J. Corbett
Max Schmeling
Jack Johnson
Jack Sharkey
*******************************************************
Brawler/Puncher Matches for the first round:
George Foreman vs Max Baer
Mike Tyson vs Sonny Liston
Joe Louis vs Jack Dempsey
John L. Sullivan vs James J. Jefferies
Rocky Marciano vs Ingemar Johansson
Boxer/Tactician Matches for the first round:
Ezzard Charles vs Muhammas Ali
James J. Corbett vs Gene Tunney
Larry Holmes vs Lennox Lewis
Jersey Joe Walcott vs Max Schmeling
Jack Johnson vs Jack Sharkey
*********************************************************
You have til the end of the week to determine your winners and losers in each of these tournaments; I will at the end of the week run the Title Boxing computer program (which can't be as bad as the old NCR315 they used in Murry Woroner's day) in a best two out of three. The winner will move on into the tournament.
At the very end of the tournament, the man who won the entire thing, will be placed into a computer fight with the current champion(s) of the WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO to see how these men would stand today.
* The two tournaments are somewhat uneven in numbers, so after the first round Joe Frazier will be tossed into the brawler tournament, as will Micheal Spinks in the stylist tournament.

It's a computer game now, but it used to be a card game. You have fighters from all eras and all divisions rated.IrishRufusMurphy wrote:No this is a computer game where you can chose fighters from any era, and put in information concerning their training, whether it was a long lay off, etc and place them into either 12 or 15 round fights, and the computer determines who wins these fights.
Never heard of a card game.

oh lol well....as I stated before, can't be no worse off than the old NCR-315 computer that Woroner used. Besides it's two out of three, and the people's opinions, as well as the game will be the deciding factors in this tournament.
Here's my picks for each tournament:
George Foreman vs Max Baer
Mike Tyson vs Sonny Liston
Joe Louis vs Jack Dempsey
John L. Sullivan vs James J. Jefferies
Rocky Marciano vs Ingemar Johansson
Ezzard Charles vs Muhammas Ali
James J. Corbett vs Gene Tunney

Jack Johnson vs Jack Sharkey

Based on a 15 round fight, the advantage has to lie with Jeff who was much more experienced with longer gloved fights. While John L fought a lot of gloved matches, they were all pretty much 6 rounds or less. He did fight a number of long grueling bare knuckle fights, but that experience wouldn’t have helped much in this matchup.Ambling Alp wrote: I'm surprised that The Great John L picked Jeffries over Sullivan.
Of course, in his prime John L was quick and hit very hard, but Jeff had one of the ATG chins, so it is unlikely that John L would have been able to stop him. I would see this fight being controlled by John L early as he is able to reach Jeff consistently. But as the fight progresses, because he didn’t pace himself, John L tires and Jeff takes over to win a close decision.

wow ezzard,Ezzard Charles WSD 15 Muhammas Ali
charles over ali?? interesting pick. i think ali at his peak beats charles. i think walcott matches up better vs ali than charles espcially since walcott has that left hook.
my picks
walcott 15 split schmeling
johnson 15 unanimous sharkey
liston TKO 8 tyson
foreman TKO 5 baer
ingemar johannsen KO 1 marciano- one right hand knocks marciano out cold face first. rockys legs quiver as he is unconsious on the canvas. rocky is way overmatched. he couldnt handle a young powerful slugger like a ingo. rocky needed the guy to be 35 + in age
louis KO 3 dempsey
holmes TKO 15 lennox
jeffries KO 12 sullivan
tunney 15 unanimous corbett

Okies....
I know I said a week...but judging from the outcomes so far...i dont really think it will make much of a difference...the only fight that was really debatable was Liston vs Tyson...so I'll have the computer determine that fight
So....will come back to u all with the results of the computer 2 outta 3 on Liston vs Tyson...so far Liston is in the lead, but it's pretty much a toss up.

The computer says...based on each men's over-all careers, in a 15 3-min round fight, that in a 2 out of three probability that...
Mike Tyson would be triumphant over Sonny Liston
**********************************************************
Will set up the second round of this computer/vote tournament 8)
