Where’s Eddeh
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
Looking at the weigh in surely Buatsi should be thinking about a move down? or were the weights wrong - he's on the SUper Middle Limit.
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
Buatsi weighed 12st 6lbs, super middle limit is 12st.
This is a decent bill. No big names, but who cares if the fights are good
3 European title contests on the same show is going some, plus an English title fight.
BBC radio 5 live also covering the Buatsi clash.

3 euro contests sounds good, but none of them really interesting. yafai-cunningham, jur-tomm,y, richards vs de carlois. cunningham has never won at british level let alone euro. jur most recognizable as a blowout/wide loser to the b level guys. richards vs de carolis might be the most competitive...the italian at least usually comes to win and richards not always convincing.
buatsi's in a big mismatch
dalton smith in a respectable enough english title fight
it's not awful but defo more quantity over quality

My bad fightnews are reporting buatsi as 168
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
Main event sucks, but as Butch said, the rest of the card has potential.
Sky NZ are listing it live tomorrow so I'm gonna give it a watch

I’m really high on Dalton Smith so interested to see how he gets on. Also interested to see Solomon Dacares making his pro debut - I’ve heard good things and it would be great for Birmingham to have a heavyweight to get behind.

For such a big city, why don't Birmingham get behind their fighter's more?maverick23 wrote: ↑15 May 2021, 03:47Good summary.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑14 May 2021, 19:41 3 euro contests sounds good, but none of them really interesting. yafai-cunningham, jur-tomm,y, richards vs de carlois. cunningham has never won at british level let alone euro. jur most recognizable as a blowout/wide loser to the b level guys. richards vs de carolis might be the most competitive...the italian at least usually comes to win and richards not always convincing.

Macklin sold a fair few tickets when he fought locally, they used to come out in force for the McCrackens as I'm sure you'll know

I’m not quite sure but it doesn’t have the history that some other big cities have. The only guy that’s sold well there in recent years is Amir Khan. Even having Yafai as a world champ wasn’t enough to draw more than 3,000 or so. Sam Eggington and Frankie Gavin didn’t do big numbers either individually.mickey1975 wrote: ↑15 May 2021, 04:20For such a big city, why don't Birmingham get behind their fighter's more?maverick23 wrote: ↑15 May 2021, 03:47Good summary.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑14 May 2021, 19:41 3 euro contests sounds good, but none of them really interesting. yafai-cunningham, jur-tomm,y, richards vs de carlois. cunningham has never won at british level let alone euro. jur most recognizable as a blowout/wide loser to the b level guys. richards vs de carolis might be the most competitive...the italian at least usually comes to win and richards not always convincing.

I worked in Birmingham for a while and went to the first magnificent seven show - was only about half full. Also went to a few shows at the Wolverhampton Civic which were always good fun but it doesn’t more than c.2,500.
Dacres isn’t even revealing which football team he supports (just saying he doesn’t support with Villa or Blues) to try and not alienate fans. If he does well then it’ll be interesting to see if he does get support as if a city won’t get behind a successful heavyweight then it’ll be tough for anyone.
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
Errol Johnson put on some cracking shows at Dudley Town Hall.
Re: Buatsi v Dos Santos
The Buatsi contest does reek of mismatch, but the Frenchman 'should' try to make a fight of it. It could at least be exciting whilst it lasts.
Buatsi's team may just be turning it down a bit after the Calic tussle
He if he does brush Dos Santos aside, then we need him out again sharpish. It's already been 7 months since the Calic fight !
Hope the current light heavyweight division doesn't become a repeat of the light middleweights of 15/20 years ago![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
