Just rewatched it and Taylor was well ahead in that fight. Seemed like one bad round and he turned it in.

For my money Taylor possessed Sugar Ray Leonard movement and sublime skills.

LaPorte was a tough customer in his prime. He went close with Pedroza too, KO'd Rocky Lockridge. Only times I saw him really get whipped when he was at his best was against two legends, Sanchez and Wilfredo Gomez. He went downhill after Chavez but still not an easy out and had a phenomenal chin

He speaks it perfectly now. Heard an interview a few years ago. He was fresh from Puerto Rico back then dropped in New York City.

Yep, he was much older than McGuigan and beautifully built at bantamweight. He blasted his way to the final and was robbed of the verdict against McGuigan but showed wonderful sportsmanship.

Well... he boxed McGuigan's head off for 6 to 7 rounds - in my opinion one of the great uncrowned champions... got KO'd by Hector Lopez a short time later...

Well... he boxed McGuigan's head off for 6 to 7 rounds - in my opinion one of the great uncrowned champions... got KO'd by Hector Lopez a short time later...

Hector Lopez reached an Olympic boxing final at just 17 and could have been special but he roamed the Los Angeles barrios as a gang member and took drugs. He still rocked Kostya Tszyu to his boots in a 10-rounder in 1994.

The US commentators mentioned McGuigan recently beating Taylor during Eubank’s pro debut, and that Eubank’s brother was the only guy to beat McGuigan

I recall taking my pocket radio and earphones and being on the way back on a train between blackpool and manchester, getting the commentary on the radio, signal going every now and again. My days thats a long time ago.
