"The #RamirezTaylor fight Saturday for the undisputed super lightweight title averaged 995k viewers and peaked during the end of the main event at 1.673 million. That doesn’t include viewers streaming on ESPN+. That number is ESPN only. Also does not include ESPN Deportes"

Good numbers and they used the Basketball to increase the viewers. They knew what they were doing.

There may have been 2 million people watching on the app, that stayed watching on the app when the ESPN broadcast began.

If the fight had been on sky, for example, you have to expect that it would have been much bigger on this side of the pond.

But what does that matter? Did good US numbers. Got paid well. Great fight. Undisputed champ. Now a star.

We have different ideas of what good numbers are. It averaged around half of what Lomachenko/Lopez did last year.

I don’t disagree it was a great fight, he’s our best fighter and I hope he was paid well but the lack of promotion pre fight in the U.K. was criminal. I said on another thread that I asked a couple of casual boxing fan friends (who went to Haye/Klitschko, Fury/Klitschko and other fights abroad) if they were going to watch the fight and a couple of them hadn’t even heard of Taylor and I don’t know know one other person who bought the PPV.

The promotion was terrible for Taylor in this country - Arum has shown already he can't do shit for his fighters in regards UK TV.

I’m not saying I would either (2.7m average for Loma/Lopez vs 1.0m for Taylor/Ramirez per Nielsen on ESPN so excludes app viewers). I just wouldn’t call averaging a bit less than 1m viewers on linear TV ‘good numbers’. TV in the US is different to the way it is in the U.K. in that it essentially doesn’t have a normal Freeview. Pretty much everyone pays for a TV subscription and ESPN is available to 95% of those subscription households so it’s as close to being comparable to Freeview.
