Benn Hamed beef
Refers to Naz as a ‘European level fighter’
Naz told the papers Benn quit against Collins.
‘You can chop my arms and legs off, I’ll still come out fighting’
Benn told him to go and fight a McClellan, like Mayweather, and prove himself, and when he sees him he’ll rip his arms and legs off and throw them into the crowd!

Re: Benn Hamed beef
Eubank Sr has also recently referred to BJS as a ‘European standard fighter’ and Canelo a ‘truly world-class fighter’
Re: Benn Hamed beef
Benn had a point. As good as Naz was, Mayweather was in a different league and was dangerous at Super featherweight.
Re: Benn Hamed beef
Naz was a loud mouth, simply put. A little dog with a big bark. He was talented, but could have fought far better opposition. And Mayweather, he would have absolutely pasted him.
Naz was from that era of where it was standard practice for British elite talent to talk the talk but cherry pick opponents and build a legacy fighting European level, fringe world class, then one big fight makes a career etc. Naz had his big fight and look what happened, not only did he get schooled, he pretty much jacked the game in after that beating. He should be grateful it was Barrera and not a young Mayweather, the beating would have been a whole lot worse.

Re: Benn Hamed beef
He was good but not elite, surely Barerra sealed his fate and legacy.
Although Hamed v Barerra was a big fight, especially to UK fans, it turned out to be a routine win for Marco. Just another good world class boxer added to his amazing win column.
Mayweather was another step up from MAB, so the maths don't augur well for Hamed.

If you believe Naz's version of events in training leading up to fight Barrera he done well to last the distance. I think his ego got far too big and he thought he was invincible but saying that his hands down style wasn't as effective as he fought better opponents.ALI wrote: ↑08 Jun 2021, 14:34Naz was a loud mouth, simply put. It was more effective against short guys or scared or shell-types.
Re: Benn Hamed beef
He was a part of the British WBO era of the 90's. The belt meant very little outside of the UK. He won the WBC against Soto, a very average fighter at best, and he won the vacant IBF against Billy Hardy, dare anyone big that up. When you say many defences your reffering to the WBO, and as i already said it meant little outside of the UK back then.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑08 Jun 2021, 14:41Come on Hamed won many world titles and defences.ALI wrote: ↑08 Jun 2021, 14:34Naz was a loud mouth, simply put. Listen i enjoyed Hameds career as much as the rest of British boxing fans, he was an entertainer and a great showman, he had great skills, but he was part of an era where it was ok to dine out on sub par oponents, acceptable to plot a way to the easiest world title, all the whioe avoiding the true elite. He was such a big mouth, he was in a way pressured into fighting Morales or Barrera, he chose Marco thinking his style wouod suit him better, but he underestimated him and was clueless when Barrera switched up his style that night.

I think you're being very harsh lol. He beat Tom Johnson for IBF, not Hardy. But beat many good fighters, though a lot were past their best. Is he a wanker? Certainly..... but he was super entertaining and more or less becoming undisputed champion is not to be sniffed at.... anyway these days he's a fat dwarf who spends most of his time in cafes lolALI wrote: ↑08 Jun 2021, 16:04He was a part of the British WBO era of the 90's. Re: Benn Hamed beef
Hamed was talented and had a great punch. But its true .. he cherry picked his opponents; his preference was lighter guys moving up or old fighters on their last legs ... Barrera was supposed to fit this perfectly on his way to Morales.
But we seen the writing on the wall against an aged and shop worn Kelly.
Mayweather would have brutalised and KO`d Hamed.

Hamed was very simple to hit with an overhand right because he simply leaned back from the waist! So feint, step in and throw it and you’ve hit him with double impact. Most were too scared or too short until he fought better.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑09 Jun 2021, 16:35Yeah but Hamed is not easy to hit. Naz was no Herol Graham.
Re: Benn Hamed beef
He was a product of the Sports Network / WBO era, when cherry picking and carrot dangling was the norm. Us fans got continuosly milked. Thats why it was so refreshing when Froch came along and showed how it really should be done. Josh Taylor is treading a similar path, and he is only getting started, so great to see.tonyevs wrote: ↑09 Jun 2021, 15:51 Hamed was talented and had a great punch. And yes, i agree, a young Mayweather would have punished him badly, but lets be honest, Hamed would never have taken the fight.
