He’s got his number 1 ranking. I can potentially see another Dillian Whyte or Howard Eastman situation where he’s gonna have to wait years for his shot. The Usyk v a AJ winner won’t have a WBO mando for a long time.
Yes, it will be hard for him to get a shot with so few champions. But a guy in his mid 30s turning over with all his experience as an amateur and especially after such a decent opponent on his debut should have been fighting the likes of takam in his 3rd year as a pro

That's him.

"Never dropped, never stopped."

Been dropped a couple of times since then, hasn't he?

I liked Higgins.

I’d fancy Dubois in the rematch.
This is a decent fight though but it all depends on whether Takam has enough left.
I would’ve preferred Parker or Chisora if Warren has the cash.
Unless Takam pulls it off, Joyce is far beyond a Dubois rematch. Big Dan (and I like him) isn't even top 15 right now. He's going to have to rebuild. And Joyce was "lazy" in that fight because he'd already fucked up Dan from the mid-way point and didn't need to step it up. Why go up into another gear when the stoppage is already obvious? It was man vs boy. Takam should be a harder fight. Joshua was pounding on the outsized Takam, and he was still there and game. I can't see the ref pulling Takam out to keep Joyce's KO record intact like when he fought Joshua. Its Joyce's fight to lose.

Higgans is the GOAT. just weezleing around, gets sloppy drunk when he is ment to be promoting a world champ, starts beef with whoever he can get in his feild of view, He would wind up prime mike tyson after a couple of Cans.

I would empty my wallet to watch a David higgans vs Sam jones bout. media tour would be golden.

Interesting thing mentioned during the press conference for this fight by Fish Eyes that I'm not sure is worthy of it's own thread: there's an investigation into possible Rio 2016 boxing corruption by Aiba that's been opened up. It's only touched on in the press conference with Joyce (Joe getting his words mixed up and, rightfully, he probably doesn't want to get too excited about it because it's boxing and he's used to being messed about) but Fwank mentions it here too at 02:45 of this interview:

so it's possible that Joe will get his deserved gold. It's the first I'd heard of it but Rio 2016 was full of iffy decisions. This is boxing though, the sport where cheaters prosper, so I don't expect it will happen. I'd love to see the look on Tony Yoka's face if he had to give his gold medal back though.

I had a Google and the first article about it that came up was this: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/ ... a-to-begin

Fingers crossed we get another heavyweight gold medalist!

It’s not going to happen. Whilst I thought Joyce won the final it was still a reasonably close fight. It wasn’t Jones Jr in 88. I did think the semi with Hrgovic was a bigger robbery though.

I don't think it will happen either, and it was a close fight. But the opening round wasn't close. The other two were close, but the opening round was clearly a Joyce round, and with the open scoring when they awarded it to Yoka you could see the fix was in. If they'd have given the first to Joe, and then the other two to Yoka, then there wouldn't be any argument. But by awarding the first to Yoka, the corruption argument does suddenly have legs and it may be overturned. Unlikely, but not impossible. Has that fight actually turned up anywhere, on youtube or something yet? I know it's around because somebody made a Joyce highlights video and it had fight footage from that in it.

Do people think Takam’s punch resistance has gone? I’m picking Joyce by decision.

I don't think so. When he gets stopped it's usually by being hit with an absolute peach that he's just never going to recover from (AJ was bouncing shots off him and had him bashed up but couldn't put him away properly like the other two). Povetkin and Chisora really both found the sweet spot and turned his lights out.

I dunno. Joyce can one punch KO people, but usually goes in for the methodical beatdown approach. I think he'll stop him, but shouldn't go looking for it. When he does, that's when he gets tagged the most. He got the KO against Stiverne, but only because he just decided to walk through him and pointlessly caught a flush heavy punch early on, and he assumed he could roll over Jennings who landed that nice body shot that slowed Joyce down a bit. Two instances of complacency which he appears to have learned from.

the joyce train is rolling after the dub win, my hunch is that he''s gotten just a tad overrated after being underrated. but nonetheless a legit contender and come through this one clearly enough

I think Takem will still be sturdy and i see him lasting at least 7 rounds, my question on him going 12 comes more down to gasstank, Takem tends to get stopped late, is that because he tires and becomes open....
joyce has shown to be relentless, can Takam hold up 12 rounds with big joe marching fowards im unsure, not unless takem hurts joyce with something at some point i dont think.

i am not totally sure on the relentless joyce thing a bit

he fought 2 solid opponents, dubs and jenn, and his work rate wasnt really much special in either. in fact vs dubs i thought he was lazy at times and risked losing a decision simply for being out worked

Joyce seemed to have so much more in the tank in both the Jennings and DDD fights... I am assuming he can convert that into more urgency when required ... could be wrong though and that may just be his slow and steady top speed ... I remember we all thought the same about Howard Eastman who coasted through fights up to Euro level but then never found those final gears when required at the highest level :)

ya will be interesting to see. even getting into round 10 or whatever it was vs dub he didnt really seem to show more urgency to me, obviously he got the job done but starting to cut it close when you're in the 10th and down on points. did he know dubs was gonna take that knee?

MT : yes was cutting it fine for sure. DDD could have been one of those Diego Corrales types down the stretch , so it was a risk to assume he could get the stoppage at the work rate he was operating at. Subsequent interviews Sam and JJ have said they were saving it for late or words to that affect ... but like you say , rnd 10 is already quite late :)

His workrate for a 230lb guy isnt special. But his workrate for a 260lb guy is i think. just chugs along. Joyce threw 60 shots a round vs DDD and thats while not even dominating and vs a guy that can throw some heat back. Sure its not kownaki vs arreola numbers, but i think his cardio is a weapon,

He is deceptive regarding his output.
Yes he moves slow, but is usually throwing something, it all adds up.
Hard to say if it's enough at the highest level.

In his amateur days and early pro fights he did live up to the come forward, steam-rolling approach, but as his opponents have improved so has his approach. Jennings was the fight that taught him that approach will not work with all fighters and with Dubois he picked his punches much more and was very accurate.
