Depends who you are talking about. Of course there were some terrible heavyweights who got title shots who you are probably thinking of.
But there was also good ones like Buddy Baer, Billy Conn, Elmer, Ray, Turkey Thompson, Jimmy Bivins, Jersey Joe Walcott, and Ezzard Charles. And of course Louis himself.
World War II was also a factor.

the cruisers got loads of buzz over the last few years, i know you dont follow current boxing so you probably remained uninformed and missed it

courtney butler, terry mcgroom, sione asipeli, michael rsh........omg those awesome '10 round fighters' , beating world champs and top contenders, becoming the legit undisputed champ in the division and actually making several title defenses, just cant compare to the depth of beating them, all top 25 atg cruisers for sure
