Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
The only boxer that has a chance beating Canelo is boxers like Floyd (who basically shut him out) Lara, (who lost a razor thin fight and Canelo refused a rematch) and Andrade, a slick southpaw. 99.9% of people here hate Andrade, but he's way better than Trout, also a sothpaw, who gave Canelo a close fight. BJS would have lost to Andrade.
As we all know, Canelo's judge will have one card filled out ahead of time, so doubt if anyone beats him by decision....officially.
I'm not a Canelo hater, give him utmost respect, but no one's beating him south of 175. Honestly, Spence may have the best chance due to his solid chin and punch volume. Spence would be a great 154 or 160, walking around in the 170's. I'd love to see Crawford fight him too.

Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
I agree 100%! Might have been a boring chess match, lol.

You don't need to be an ultimate puncher to keep Canelo off of you. Mayweather, Lara, and Trout weren't.
Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
I agree. Plant has too many unknowns. What if he has a great chin? I remember Ward being called chinny before the Miranda fight.yo momma pimp wrote: ↑22 Jul 2021, 19:49Youre not misunderstood at all chappy. My point is : Canelo is the one of the best fighters in the last decade, Plant is simply solid (maybe very solid) fighter, but nothing more, definitely, So, Canelo is 9/10 (maybe 10/10), Plant is 6/10 (maybe 7/10). That's it.
Canelo should become the undisputed at SMW, He deserved.....................
This will be a highly competitive fight between two qualified guys.
Canelo better hope Caleb's beard turns out to be glass because if Plant ends up having a solid jaw Canelo could be in for a real REAL shocker. Nuff said.

I like Plant, which is why I want him to get a couple more bouts of experience before facing Canelo. I just don't see anything in his record that indicates he will beat Canelo. I have no doubt he will learn a lot in losing but is he going to shock the world though?
*For me this card receives a boost though if Whyte takes on a credible opponent in the co main.

Technically he's a paper champion with three lackluster defenses. If it falls through I suspect that it will be Golovkin, not Beterbiev or Bivol who will be the replacement.
Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
Ha!
Love it.
Yes he has been in a seeming 'holding pattern'.
But so has half the top guys in almost every division above SLW.
I agree it isn't a mismatch. Canelo will start slow, I think, working Plant out. And Plant may have some early success.
Can Canelo knock him out?
Probably.
Can Canelo win on points?
Definitely
Can Plant make a fight of it?
Maybe.
And that is about as good as it gets in boxing today.

Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
his win to get the title was good, he obviously has skills, his defenses sucked though. clearly he was playing the canelo waiting game
my question isnt so much about skills as it his will - how bad does he want it?

Oh it was Uzcategui who fought for a vacant belt. I see that now.

It was the Interim belt that Uzcategui fought against Dirrell for. Uzcategui was then elevated to full champ status when Degale vacated. His first defence was against Plant.

Paper belt in my opinion.
Plant won it from the 'silver' champion. So not an actual champion.
Gosh, and defended it against guys that give me (at least) very little idea how good Plant actually is

Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
There is about a 1000:1 chance Plant can win a decision. Hell, Canelo had one judge calling it a draw when he didn't win a round vs Floyd. Plant has good skills though, hopefully he can KO Canelo.
Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
I gotta be honest I don't know too much about Caleb Plant. I was expecting an easy win for Canelo because Plant won't even have a weight advantage, whereas Canelo has beaten men of championship quality who were much bigger..
I'm pleased that posters who clearly know more about him than I do are talking up his chances. I've no complaints about anyone participating in a unification however one-sided it promises to be, but if Alvarez v Plant is expected by some to be competitive then so much the better

Saunders might have been a paper champ at 168 but he built a name for himself at 160. I watched Plant's last fight vs the other Caleb Truax and he was clearly the more athletically gifted and won every round. Truax is no Canelo but he doesn't have to win every round but just 7/12. Of course that's assuming the judges are being honest.

It's so pathetic how the judges favor Canelo. Many examples. Anyway I hope plant is competitive. He may surprise us all.

Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
Canelo hasn't had a controversial decision in years. The draw card with Floyd is one of the woat. I had Lara edging him, but it wasn't near a robbery. Ggg clearly won the first fight. Only robbery win in his career
Re: Canelo vs, Plant - mismatch or not ?
Canelo holds 3 of the 4 belts and can become only the 6th fighter in history to hold all 4 by beating the undefeated IBF champion.
The fight itself may play out to be a mismatch, maybe it will maybe it won’t. But on paper fighting the undefeated boxer who holds the only title you don’t have at your weight class makes sense.

The robbery in GGG Canelo 1 was Byrd scoring it 118-110.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 22:51 Canelo hasn't had a controversial decision in years. The draw card with Floyd is one of the woat. The robbery was that he didn't win. Though that was beyond egregious.Wales wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 00:48The robbery in GGG Canelo 1 was Byrd scoring it 118-110.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑23 Jul 2021, 22:51 Canelo hasn't had a controversial decision in years. I remember having GGG winning but only by round or maybe two and a lot were close.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑24 Jul 2021, 01:07The robbery was that he didn't win. Certainly seen worse decisions.
