fighters who burnt out young

Post by margaret thatcher »

i was thinking of hughie fury, and how at 27 next month it still often gets mentioned that 'he's still just a babeh', but seemingly has shown little sign of improving with age

made me wonder about a related issue.....who are some fighters who burnt out at a younger age than normal and didnt have the normal peak years?

Hughie was never hot enough to burn out.

I'll get to you on the thread topic.

'Boom Boom' Mancini.

Champ at 21'ish, finished a few years later. To be fair he fought for another title in a comeback
in his late 20's. Cracking short career. :box:

I was gonna say Naz but did he burn out or just lose the hunger? I still reckon a fit and focused Naseem Hamed is a ATG Featherweight but I guess we'll never know

Considering he was oldest heavyweight champion - it might seem daft - but I will say Foreman. Even when he returned he was super slow considering he was 38 - which isn't exactly overly old for a heavyweight these days.

It was overly old for a heavyweight in those days.

And he didn’t throw a punch for 10 years.

Fernando Vargas, David Reid. And possibly Josh Kelly, but that may be more that he just isn't very good.
