DAZN to buy BT Sport.
DAZN to buy BT Sport.
Rumours seem to be getting more and more likely DAZN to buy BT Sport shortly.
Matchroom back on TV but in same channel as FW.
Would FW want to stay with DAZN with Matchroom being main partner.
Gives DAZN PPV platform for AJ.
Could change few things over next few months.

Re: DAZN to buy BT Sport.
Very early to see how it would work, perhaps it will be bt events on a streaming service? or both?

Re: DAZN to buy BT Sport.
It will be interesting to see how this works. I don’t think BT Sport makes money for BT but I can’t see DAZN buying BT Sport as a stand-alone entity. They’ll just want their broadcasting rights for football and maybe some other stuff (rugby union, UFC).
I wouldn’t have thought they’d have any interest in the BT boxing side - just like they won’t have any interest in running normal tv channels.

If Eddie went from a good wicket on sky, to dazn giving up on usa and putting him on BT sport then it’s going to be a sad turn around.
Re: DAZN to buy BT Sport.
Makes sense after the collapse of the European Super League. As much as I love boxing, it's just not enough to pull in punters. They need some football to make it viable.
What happens with Warren will be interesting. Maybe he will go back to Sky?

It's a long way off.
Asked if talks about a deal were still live, five months after BT said it was considering selling a stake in the unit, he said: “It’s really quiet.”

I’ve heard so far, they be getting broadcasting rights for PL football, some rugby league and one other thing.maverick23 wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 04:18 It will be interesting to see how this works. Then we have WWE and UFC don’t we.. god know what’s happening with this and how it would work.

Would there be enough money in pot with Top Rank and Boxxer/Wassermann now in place ?

For what it’s worth, I got talking to a guy who works quite high up in the Tele Comms’ industry, at a mates function in the summer. I asked him about BT selling up the sports and he said he would be shocked if there board actually went through with a complete sale.
He believes they are looking for an investment/partnership arrangement rather than a takeover.

Feel somthing big has happened to Eddies future, and I don’t think good either.
Can you imagine a world where Eddie is quiet going into an AJ fight week…. And the reason I think it’s bad is because if it was good he would be mentioning “big stuff coming” 9 times per daily IFL interview.

Re: DAZN to buy BT Sport.
If DAZN buys BT Sport they're really buying the tv rights to 1/6 of Premier League games and all UEFA football - as well as any other rights BT has such as the Big Bash.
They'll then stick this on the app and put the charge up to £25 per month.

Re: DAZN to buy BT Sport.
Franks got a contract. As long as the Management structure stays the same, I would have thought everything will be ok. He must be secure for at least a couple of years, otherwise he wouldn’t have had the backing to re-sign Joyce for big money.
He was also pally with Adam Smith last summer, which had to have been around the possibly of going back to Sky when it was clear Eddie was going to be on the move. As nothing came to fruition, you would have to believe that Warren was comfortable were he was, otherwise he would surely have jumped ship.
Either way, I think it’s going to be a turbulent 6-12months for the entire industry- especially if AJ gets done on Saturday.

Not sure I agree with that. If DAZN buy BT Sport then they will rebrand and drop the BT Sport name surely ? I don't see how Frank and Eddie could both then promote shows on DAZN.Manchester Hitman wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021, 09:42Franks got a contract. If DAZ buys BT, FW will be looking for a new platform.
Re: DAZN to buy BT Sport.
I agree. I think Eddie is struggling for momentum at DAZN. I’m not sure fight camp was particularly spectacular and is Smith v Fowler really amazing? He also seems to be putting a lot of stock into unproven Connor Benn.gregregegg wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021, 01:59 Feel somthing big has happened to Eddies future, and I don’t think good either.

Losing fighters like Josh Kelly can’t be good for Eddie. Wasserman’s emergence and link up with Sky is creating a potentially big powerhouse let alone Top Rank’s presence.
Things just don’t seem right for Eddie at the moment (AJ’s rights deal coming up and may stay with Sky/Canelo fighting next on a PBC-Fox Sports card/aggressive domestic competitor moves/Fighters like BJS and others, positively wanting the sky platform).
To me it looks like Eddie’s starting to lose his power grip on British boxing.

BT Sport is a massive brand - I say again, its BT (British Telecom!) you don’t rebrand that mate - unless it’s a mega blue chip company like Amazon that is buying it.Black Sam Bellamy wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021, 13:54Not sure I agree with that. allegedly has a contact. If DAZN don’t want to keep him on they will have to try to buy him out- it’s not none and void because of change of ownership, that’s not how business works.
Re: DAZN to buy BT Sport.
This is if DAZN buys the brand. They could buy the rights BT Sport owns from them but not the brand.Manchester Hitman wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021, 20:27BT Sport is a massive brand - I say again, its BT (British Telecom!) you don’t rebrand that mate - unless it’s a mega blue chip company like Amazon that is buying it.Black Sam Bellamy wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021, 13:54Not sure I agree with that. If they did buy the Champions League and Premier League rights, and possibly Rugby's Premiership then they could be on DAZN for next season. In those circumstances BT could close the channels. DAZN doesn't want to run a tv station - they want rights so general public signs up to their streaming service.

DAZN will need BT’s infrastructure & equipment etc. Can you imagine having to watch Premier & Champions league on an internet stream…there will be hell to pay.
I guess I could be wrong about the branding - maybe it will change to DAZN Sports or something. I’m looking forward to seeing how things develope.
