Hopkins - McCallum

Post by Ezzard »

I seriously cannot split these two. McCallum was always a neglected great who got his big fights late in his career at higher weights. Hopkins is enjoying huge acclaim at the moment...

Who would win? Over 15 rounds...

It's going the distance but this is as even a fight as I could imagine.

They are about as similar in everything as two fighters could possibly be! I don't know...I'd say a draw.

I think McCallum’s body punching and better work rate would earn him a close decision, although I think it could have gone either way.

From the outside its McCallum, from the inside its Hopkins. My guess is Hopkins lays all over him. The Executioner as always figures out a way to win.

I love The Bodysnatcher but how long did he hold onto his titles for, compared to Hopkins...?

That's how I see it which is why I posted this match up. They are similar fighters.

In my opinion Hopkins would win the mental game....gives him the edge and a U.D.

Hopkins has never knocked anyone of any note out in the first round and Mike McCallum was never knocked out...in any round...but good observation though.

Can't believe that some people don't consider this to be a close fight. I lean towards McCallum but not by much.

Extremely close fight, both super skilled and super tough. Hate to pick against Big Mac, but I'd say a draw or very narrow decision to Hopkins, just. Mac could just pull it out, but Hopkins has the more consistent record at top level

I see something similar. McCallum could nick it, but I'd lean towards Hopkins in a fight that wouldn't be pretty.

i think the kalambay that fought mccallum (in their first fight) would beat b-hop.

agree on all counts

Hopkins every day of the week and on points.

I see it as predictable.

I don't really see them as very similar other than that both are excellent technically.

McCallum, very close. His bodywork just nicks a 6-5-1 decision.

People think this isnt close? Then what IS?

These are two gifted technical fighters. It would be a very entertaining fight in the sense how could one outsmarts the other. It would be a fight like Leonard vs Benitez or McCallum vs Toney or Whitaker vs McGirt fights. I pick Bernard Hopkins over Mike McCallum by a close decision. Two great fighters.

:TU: I love that interview when Toney says it was the first McCallum fight that taught him to box.
