Fury is a master boxer.....outdueled Wladimir and also used lots of boxing in Wilder #1.

Then he went to Sugar Hill. And he changed tactics on purpose to take more blows to go at Wilder to land more blows. Which has worked out pretty darn well too. For him and for boxing in general.

Fury is the definition of BOXING. The whole damn range of tactics and skills. He can do it all and easily switch between stances and styles during fights. He just might be the most adaptable fighter of all times because of his combination of size, skills, chin and boxing mind.

Agreed
I appreciate it must have been edge of seat for those watching live; and both guys showed their fighting hearts as we fans expect.

But it was great for the level both of those guys are at. Whilst I am not saying it was of the skill level involved in Ward v Gatti .. it demonstrated when you have two warriors of similar ability and heart; you can get a great fight to watch.
Although just as Gatti and Ward showed .. they were a level or two down from true great fighters at top of their weight division.

Does anyone think the Bowe and Holyfield of that fight having any trouble with the Fury and Wilder of this fight?

I agree Fury is number 1 heavyweight today, and Wilder probably number 2 .. but they are the best of an absolutely terrible bunch of heavyweights today.

This has always been cope for Americans. ESPN die-hards deluded themselves into thinking the rest of the world pours their greatest athletes into boxing, meanwhile the US still has a far higher number of heavyweights than any other country, probably more than all other countries combined. To be honest, you are right. Furys best asset is his size. Wilders best asset is a hard right. Fury boxes better than Wilder, but that isn't saying much. A slick well schooled boxer near their size would embarass either guy.
OMG
These people acting like Fury isn't a good boxer.... :stop: :stop:
Fury throws a 2 punch combination and then lays on the opponent to sap his strength. If he gets hit solidly he turtles and goes down rather than get hit again. His best weapons are holding and being flabby. Wilder has no idea how to box. He has no idea how to set up a punch, he is volume of haymakers hoping the opponent walks into 1. In the modern era of super heavyweights neither of these 2 guys would beat the Klitscho's in their primes let alone Lennox Lewis.

Fury has the win over Wlad and probably the Fury from Wilder 2 was prime Fury. Was Wlad that far removed from his prime when he fought Fury? Granted he didn't fight again until AJ, but he had Femi all over the place didn't he? So he wasn't shot to bits. What's prime Wlad? David Haye and Povetkin on points?

I agree on Lewis, by the way. None of them beat him.

[/quotVlad/Fury never woulda happened when each was "prime" 2 different eras but Vlad learned to punch and set up punches. He had a suspect chin and seemed to have a blah killer instinct, but he was far more skilled than Fury, who is a great promoter of his own legacy.

But then Klitschko didn't lose to peak Fury either.

Regardless, this era isn't over yet. We've had some bloody good fights! It pisses all over the previous era in terms of fun. Everybody should appreciate being part of it. When it's over- next year or the year after- and we finally have a definitive number one, whether it be Usyk, Fury, AJ or even somebody else- I'm sure everybody will fight in the end. It will take a while to really be able to look back on it and judge it for what it was.

Good tactical analysis.

To be fair, even Fury didn't claim that to be one of his best performances.

Fury's greatest asset is his elusiveness but on Saturday he seemed to get carried away with his desire to punish Deontay Wilder.

There were moments towards the end of the 4th when absolutely everything could have gone the other way.

It was a great fight, but no doubt Fury would have to be a lot better to beat Usyk.

Sounds like you've watched only his last bout. Fury can do pretty much everything. He's been known as a behind-the-jab mover a couple of bouts before.

You haven't seen much boxing or Fury for that matter if you think he's not a good boxer. He didn't look in particularly good shape this fight but he still beat Wilder, outboxed wilder for a third time. He's the best boxer at HWT, can't really dispute that.

Not sure how you define everything. He has a long jab, but not a stiff jab. I remember the time he punched himself in the face with an uppercut. :TU:

I think a prime Larry Holmes beats Fury. I think a prime George Foreman beats Fury. I think a prime Riddick Bowe beats Fury.

Absolutely. Boxing fans are pretty hard to please. We had 10+ years of Klitschko jab and grab. A dire era of watching Wlad jab fat blokes in the face until they tired enough for him to knock them out.
It may be true to say that there's a bit of a skill shortage, bit this is the most fun the division has been for a really long time! We've gone from one boring fighter at the top beating everyone, to a whole host of others with strengths and flaws willing to fight each other.
What I'm not happy about is the pack of the top lads fighting each other, not what's on show.
