ya i agree, i think he's plenty good, but dude has been a total f@ck up at multiple points in his career - just as he shouldve been taking off - yet for some reasson remains well loved while other fighters get the blame for david's matchmakingEnlightened-One wrote: ↑29 Oct 2021, 09:53 David Benavidez is one of those fighters that bizarrely receives an honorary rite of passage to being regarded as the best super-middleweight only the planet (from those not named Canelo) from fight fans, without even needing to face any decent opponents.
He seems to receive kudos from certain fans for theoretical “victories” (based solely on opinions/expectation), with the same mentally deranged individuals also choosing to criticise other fighters for their real-world wins.
But lets’ not pretend that Benavidez’s lack of career progression is due to him being allegedly “fearsome” or the “Boogeyman” at 168lbs, because:
• Seven months after signing a four-year contract extension, four-year contract extension with his existing promoter, Sampson Boxing, he accepted (and then had to return) a $250K sign-on bonus payment he wrongly accepted from Top Rank to join Bob Arum’s stable.
• He failed an out-of-competition drug test when he tested positive for a component of cocaine (benzoylecgonine). He admitted to making a mistake, was stripped of his WBC title and also received a four months suspension.
• He failed to make weight for his fight against Roamer Alexis (by a 3lbs margin) and was subsequently stripped of his WBC title for the second time.
• Rejected an opportunity to face the current WBC middleweight titleholder, Jermall Charlo, in a catch-weight bout.
• Has been inactive and delivered an uninspiring, though dominant, performance during his most recent outing against Ronald Ellis. The Kyrone Davis bout will only be Benavidez’s fifth fight during a 45-month timeframe.
• Benavidez’s career best victories have come against a past-his-prime iteration of Anthony Dirrell and Ronald Gavril.
David Benavidez comes across as a nice guy though, but he’s made many poor career-based decisions and his resume is weak.
I’d like to see him fight anybody with a pulse before being granted a career-high payday for the Canelo bout, but unfortunately Kyrone Davis is not that guy.
I expect Benavidez to score a straightforward one-sided victory over Davis and will inevitably be praised for his alleged “greatness” immediately afterwards!

Also Bena is known for giving hell to the champs in sparrings! Come on, just for once, don't be so deliberately disingenuous.
You know full well that David Benavidez has what is known as a 'fan favourite' style.
Benavidez is a warrior, and that is a big part of what this sport should always be about, isn't it?
I can “see” what fight fans appreciate in Benavidez, but his poor resume and current predicament are of his own making.Thomastearns wrote: ↑29 Oct 2021, 15:06Enlightened-One wrote: ↑29 Oct 2021, 09:53 David Benavidez is one of those fighters that bizarrely receives an honorary rite of passage to being regarded as the best super-middleweight only the planet (from those not named Canelo) from fight fans, without even needing to face any decent opponents.

To be fair though, how seriously can you take a fighter seriously that willingly threw away their world title twice, due to excessive eating and cocaine, coupled with burning bridges with various promoters and rejecting an opportunity to face Jermall Charlo at catchweight?apollo creed wrote: ↑01 Nov 2021, 06:07 "In my mind, Benavidez needs one legitimate victory to justify the hype and praise that’s been bestowed upon him."
Well, for that, his stablemate Charlito should stop quacking around at 160 draining himself and move up at 168 and fight Benavidez.![]()

For sure, Benavidez is talented, but surely he’s to blame for his own predicament, not Jermall Charlo?
“I campaign at 160. David Benavidez is at 168,” said Jermall Charlo on social media. “I want to fight the mother f****, meet up somewhere. I’m with it.”
Benavidez's response was: “[Jermall Charlo] doesn’t even want to come up to 168, he wants to do a catch-weight! Like I didn’t say I wanted to do a catch-weight, I didn't say I wanted to go down! You said that you wanted to come up to 168, so now what’s the problem?!”
Is David Benavidez the A-side over Jermall Charlo?![]()
