He’s a world champion who never won a world title fight. No one can top that.
Scott Quigg can match it. WBA stripped Rigo before the Frampton-Quigg fight & upgraded Quigg to world champion. Quigg lost to Frampton & never won a world title fight.

Ken Norton is another world champion who never won a world title fight.

He was little more than a slow, stiff bodybuilder with a jab really.

I loved both of them and most of the other names suggested. To be World Champion - even in the multibelt era - you have to be a very good fighter indeed. :salut:
If Gavin had any decent stamina he would have been a problem for anyone, worst??
IIRC he must have thrown a thousand-odd punches against Buckland?

WBO Middleweight champion Jason Matthews can’t be too far off. Apart from the flattering overpowering of Ryan Rhodes, in retrospect he was only a chinny British level banger.

So far there's been about 4 women that WOULDN'T be in with a shout of 'worst ever' and Savannah is the only Brit.

Good shout, similar to Paul Silky Jones.

If we're counting WBO... Almost all of them! In the 90s and 00s, boxing for the WBO title was a tacit admission that you wanted to be called world champion but didn't want to fight a real champion, or defend against world class challengers.

Hate to say this but Bruno could be in the mix up.

Great guy and lovely fella but rolled against Tyson in the second fight. Bruno was terrified and that's not what a world champion should be.

I was at that fight. He didn't overpower him, he caught him cold.

He definitely took something away from Rhodes that night. Chased him down to light-middle long term, and in doing so lost muscle mass/punching power/and belief it seems to me in retrospect.

he was totally bizarre after his last fight. was uttering all sorts of unintelligble nonsense and basically admitted to throwing the fight out of payback for something. his opponent was a very shady character (a gangster before boxing, with basically no boxing background before going pro) who i suspected of buying wins even before ola fought him

i looked more into ola after this, and hadnt realized what a nutter he was. i dont know if he was always like that or if it happened gradually throughout his career.

All the guys who got to hold a world title can fight. Although some like most of those already identified had considerable luck to be around at the right time .. and have the right promoter.

Tony Bellew most definitely falls into that category. After the Stevenson loss I thought he`d disappear and quickly be forgotten. But he reinvented himself some .. and now he is a British all time great .. to his nan anyway.

fuuuuckin' hell. i hate being that internet guy who says "you don't know boxing...." but there's some shocking comments in this thread. maybe i'm getting on a bit and its a generational thing, but boxing knowledge and history has really dipped on this site.

Audley Harrison destroying the “Dutch Sonny Liston” to win the highly coveted WBF heavyweight title at licence payers expense was an incomparable act of taking the p*ss whilst scraping the barrel.

Right. Audley was the only guy to beat the Dutch Sonny Liston

Are we talking worst championship reign or worst overall fighter to hold a world title?

Bruno has to be In for a shout of worst reign
Scraped past McCall then soiled his daks badly in his first defence and promptly retired
