It seems that DAZN aren’t interested in Crawford, because the numbers don’t make sense (as per Eddie Hearn's comments to iFL TV yesterday).
Bob Arum was eager to offload Crawford, with his relationship soured with Bud to the point Terence has already claimed he won’t work with Top Rank again.
So it begs the question, are the PBC even willing to recruit Crawford and offer him the paydays he’s accustomed to?
The networks need to generate a profit from boxing and if they can’t, they’ll start covering other sports that are more profitable.
So the PBC could take one look at Crawford, his unprofessional conduct during last years heated exchanges with Bob Arum (i.e. airing dirty laundry in public), his self-confessed unwillingness to talk to specific media outlets, coupled with his lack of self-promotion during press conferences, and decide they’re really not that interested in working with him… or they’ll instead demand he takes a significant pay cut, due to his numbers.
If no one else wants Crawford, then Terence will be negotiating with the PBC from a position of weakness, which might lead him to consider retirement, rather than taking much smaller paydays than the $4m purse guarantees he previously received from Top Rank.
So this leads me to beg the rather obvious question, where does Terence Crawford go from here, because at this moment in time, all of Bud’s “eggs” currently appear to be in only “one basket”?
