I wonder how the contracts are written, if the PL is with BT and they sell then that might become void so DAZN might not get the football which is what they really want.
I'm not sure why they want to wait until next summer as is the rumour to buy them , surely if they wanted BT and the money was right do the deal now ?

There will be a lot going on.

Premier League have to agree their rights being transferred and probably other sports too depending on the contracts, and the method of the buyout/takeover.

Presumably DAZN would go for something like Germany where they get a couple of branded linear channels on the Sky platform to show their content. It's not ideal for them because it costs them and puts them at Sky's control but we are absolutely conditioned in this country to watch Premier League on channels 401+ and that's where the money is.

By the way, this is all fast changing stuff. DAZN have already woken up to the challenges of actually making money from all of this, and they can't do it in the way that BT, Sky and Amazon did (in terms of flogging broadband to millions, other TV packages or even tvs like Sky are now doing, and just as an arm of retail for Amazon Prime).

They have focused in on Betting. But they are doing that just at the time that Government is pushing hard to decouple betting from football in the way that it is aggresively pushed now.

This will all take some time to play out.

Discovery already have Eurosport and the Olympic games so could be a better fit for buying than DAZN who just seem to be burning money

For what it’s worth, I got talking to a guy who works quite high up in the Tele Comms’ industry, at a mates function in the summer. I asked him about BT selling up the sports and he said he would be shocked if there board actually went through with a complete sale.

He believes they are looking for an investment/partnership arrangement rather than a takeover.

Guess the geezer was bang on then.

They've basically given up on the US in terms of competing with the big boys (ESPN+ and Peacock) and have a very unsure future in the UK.

Whereas in other parts of the globe, they are very much part of the mix.

Almost everywhere though, it's about football. And whatever DAZN and their cheerleaders may state, this was their route to that market, they wanted it and it's been totally choked off.

I think it's not as straightforward as that. I'm a massive boxing fan but my days of getting up in the middle of the night for anything but the biggest fights are gone.

So what I'll watch on DAZN are Jacobs Vs Ryder(good fight), Okoloie Vs Cieslak (good fight), Wood vs Conlan (good fight) and Martinez vs Warrington (we'll see).

I ain't paying an £8 a month subscription for those four fights to cover the first 3 months of the year. If you still do the getting up in the middle of the night, then it's much better value.

I think the quality of shows has actually improved a little since he’s gone to DAZN - they’re just not get the visibility they once did because they don’t have the Sky machine behind them.

In Britain it's football first and the rest is just filler , the SKY model of many sports for one monthly price is embedded into people's minds now.
God knows what the upcoming fuel , tax rises , inflation etc will do for subscription numbers either
