butterbean also ko'd former wwf big man sean o'haire (aka chuck palumbo) in like 30 seconds in pride. between boxing and fighting in k1 and a bunch of different mma and wrestling promotions, bean had an interesting career

butterbean had that overhand right from the gawds, more dangerous than a eubank uppercut :yay:

To be fair he looked like that all through his career , makes you wonder how he even passed a medical .

O’Haire wasn’t Chuck Palumbo, Palumbo was his tag team partner. It looked like he could have done with making the tag in that fight with Butterbean.

It’s easy to take the piss out of the Butterz, maybe he wasn’t the best and maybe he was not your normal athlete but his record over 3 combat sports (mma, boxing and kick boxing) is impressive, people might question his opponents but it’s still better than 99.9% of Us (the forum) could do

Is it not 100% or this forum? He was a proper fighting man, with a great attitude. I suspect there’s quite a few wannabe British fighters he could have knocked silly. Your Richard Towers type opponents.

Not knocking Butterbean he stepped up and got in the ring and made some money where other better boxers haven't.
I'm not knowledgeable about mma etc , just wondering if the level of opponent in the other sports was higher than the low level journeymen he met in boxing?

Looking at the records definitely his MMA matches were better than his boxing opponents in that the MMA record is dotted with recognisable fringe world class names. In kickboxing probably only Mike Bernardo was better than anyone he faced in boxing. I guess you can argue about how good an ancient Larry Holmes was.

Butterbean hopefully was well compensated for effectively being a name fed to better fighters in these other disciplines after he was well past his peak in boxing. K1 kickboxing was always keen on doing that sort of stuff with Frans Botha and others. MMA just kind of copied it. James Toney being served up to Randy Couture in the UFC being the most blatant one.

ya agree, obviously nowhere near a world beater or anything, but he had some real power and had a very fun interesting career between boxing, k1, mma, and wwf. he could wing in that overhand right decently

would probably have ko'd that steve robinson bloke who fought tonight in 1 round

Definitely mate, he was a hard man and had fearsome power. He was a few levels below the top 20 in all sports he fought in but he could have a go that’s for sure.

I think the clip of him Knocking the Jackass guy out in the shop is funny. He looked pretty angry 😡 🤣

That is the weird thing I always thought him a complete novelty but watching him he is clearly trained and a legitimate pro boxer. When in against non boxers he puts them well and truly to sleep. I’m sure Bart Gunns head is still going like one of those nodding dogs.

His MMA fights with Cabbage Correria are superb brawls.

Cabbage smashes a knee into his mouth and Butterbean spits his front teeth out and flies back into the fray - a legitimate hardcase. :salut:

Looking at Joey’s record it looks debatable.

Ffs he had a dig and looked like a video game character, he was a funny gimmick, people just like to take these ideas and run way too far with them

I think these things happen in cycles but with social media now it's just far more prominent, he's just flavour of the month again, remember him for older people and lol who was he he looks like a character for the younger

Does no one remember him against Mitch Rose? Journeyman with a horrible record but a bit of nous and he baked Bean. He had no punchers chance against anyone in the 90s, including a sick Michael Bentt.

That Mitch Rose loss unfortunately coincided with Boxing Monthly giving him a cover story. Glyn Leach was mortified!
