My youngest lad fought on one of his shows in December at the Roundhouse pub in Bolton, he's still got an interesting haircut. I wonder how many loudmouths over the years have come unstuck commenting on his hair.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑05 Feb 2022, 15:57There we go. Re: Untapped areas UK/Ire boxing
i really think it goes down to if there is good boxing clubs in the area , i reckon if you put a good trainer which in the sense kids want to come and train you will get good fighters
Re: Untapped areas UK/Ire boxing
For sure Bristol has areas like Clifton and places like St Paul’s are experiencing gentrification, but it’s a long way short of being a mostly prosperous, wealthy place. Don’t be fooled by the hipster influx of recent years, Bristol is still far more rough and ready than somewhere like Bath, which does fit your description.

Again, depends on where you go. Bristol accent is very prevalent (and far more mocked than Northern accents!).610567 wrote: ↑07 Feb 2022, 10:41Deserter wrote: ↑07 Feb 2022, 09:57says the man who clearly hasn’t been to places like Hartcliffe and Southmead.

Put it this way, you hear FAR FAR more posh accents in Bristol on average than you do in northern cities like Bradford Manchester Liverpool Sheffield!!
Then compare the house prices of Bristol to Bradford lol!![]()
Point about house prices is a slightly false correlation - look at house prices in London, but no-one would dispute there are huge swathes of the city that have serious poverty. In the same way there is plenty of poverty in Bristol and big council estates, so still wrong to characterise it as mostly wealthy. Not even close in that regard.

You’re right about Bristol. Some lovely areas but some real rough parts too. I used to live in Redland when I was at University and walked to the Empire ABC. Redland was a nice enough area but there were some rough parts of Saint Paul’s I used to walk through and that’s not even one of the really worst parts. I worked in a pub too by the prison on Gloucester Road - another rough area.Deserter wrote: ↑07 Feb 2022, 11:30Again, depends on where you go. It’s not too dissimilar to most other cities. I’d say more of the blue chip companies have a regional base in Bristol rather than Bath if they want a location in that part of the world. Not many will do so in Bradford/Sheffield as they’re fairly close to bigger cities.

I haven’t been back much but stayed in the city centre there rather than Cardiff for AJ/Parker. It’s a good city.

Ahh nice. The period I went to The Empire was way back in the day - 1994/5! Lot of close friends in Bristol still and crazy to see how certain parts have changed.maverick23 wrote: ↑08 Feb 2022, 04:522005-2008. I hitchiked back from Glastonbury in 93 and the first part of the journey dropped us In St Paul's. It really didn't look that lovely! Not for a white lad from North Yorkshire.
