Ring didn't look that high off the ground.. would be surprised if there was any serious injury there.
Re: Round-by-Round: Michael Conlan vs. Leigh Wood - 12 March 2022
Given for many rounds conlan landed the combos and made wood miss, this became less during the later rounds when conlan tired but he had built a huge lead for me by round 10.JCS wrote: ↑12 Mar 2022, 19:57Didn't see it that way either. Conlan had many more flashy pot shots... but that doesn't necessarily win rounds against a guy that's more often forcing the action, landing shots of his own.blanca wrote: ↑12 Mar 2022, 19:55Wood was getting schooled for most of the fight.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑12 Mar 2022, 19:49
What fight were you watching? Conlan was one round up going into the 12th and looking ragged. Wood won plenty of rounds here and was well in the fight. No outclassing here at all.
Will be very interesting to see the official cards.

The fall from the ring isn't ideal but it was the slump before that worries me

Incredible resilience from Wood, he was knocked out in that first round. His head bounced off the canvas. Incredible he got right back up. He must have been buzzed for a good few rounds and then soaked up some serious punishment over the next few rounds.
Conlan slowed a lot in the 8th but came back well in the next 2. Then Woods had a good 11th, and Conlan was definitely hurt by that knockdown, even if it didn't look a hard shot.
Conlan comes out for the 12th, seems okay, then went to the ropes looking vulnerable and Woods took him out.

Particularly given the shots hit the top of his head, not good.handsofstone wrote: ↑12 Mar 2022, 20:00 The fall from the ring isn't ideal but it was the slump before that worries me

agree....i think the ppl broke his fall enough for it to not be major. but going totally limp like that after a grueling batter of attrition is worryinghandsofstone wrote: ↑12 Mar 2022, 20:00 The fall from the ring isn't ideal but it was the slump before that worries me

I had it 106-102 Conlan at time of stoppage and although I watched whole fight, my teenage daughters were yapping all the way through

must of been that right hand, really didnt look like it landed well but knocked him out completly cold. then the shoeshine all missed but conlan just fell back through the ropes.
I dont think it was the side ben davision was on, but i dont like the way he leans on the ropes to talk to his fighter mid round. i was actualy thinking it this fight, he was pulling the 2nd bottom rope way down and yelling stuff though the ropes at one point. If, and i say massive IF he was leaning on that 2nd bottom rope that conlan fell over i hope he gets a big fornicating talking to, not that it would or wouldnot of changed anything, its just people shouldent be fornicating with the ropes...

Re: Round-by-Round: Michael Conlan vs. Leigh Wood - 12 March 2022
that was the end of a gruelling fight, at that point conlan was worn down and exhausted enough that it wouldnt take a big shot to finish him.
thats a bad fight for his health .......both accumulated punishment/exhaustion + a brutal ko

I had Conlan up 105 - 102. It is really over until it's over...
Great performance in timing and precision by Gary Cully; the pairing with Pantera Farias was too early for Sandy.

Hope the fella is ok
What a fight and win for Wood , not many would stand up to the beating he was getting .
His reaction after the fight could teach a few others about having some respect .
So pleased for the lad .

Great fight, the drama the action, and everything else. I know it wasn't immediate but the work rate that Conlan put into round 2, throwing so much with everything on it, was a high risk tactic for a non puncher... felt at the time that could bite him, and with all the wrestling... it was clear he was going to be tiring down the stretch... still expected him to hold on for the win but...what a finish...

Wood came across like a great guy.
Re: Round-by-Round: Michael Conlan vs. Leigh Wood - 12 March 2022
I might be way out, but I had Conlan 104-103 ahead going into the last round.
Before the finish, Conlan looked like he was trying to keep Wood at a distance and he’d have definitely had his hand raised.
All the credit in the world to Wood though, he dug in and Conlan wasn’t comfortable for a lot of the second half of the fight.
Fights like that are what boxing should be, if we had that more often, why would you even want to look at any other combat sport.

He did, fair play to him. It must be so difficult for him right now.

two 12th round stoppages in a row for wood, must be a fairly rare feat

One of the best fights I’ve ever seen. Astonishing bravery from Wood.

Glen Catley also did it and then lost his next also by 12th round ko.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑12 Mar 2022, 20:13 two 12th round stoppages in a row for wood, must be a fairly rare feat
