Re: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden | DAZN - 16 April 2022
Hearn Responds to Benn-Van Heerden Criticism: It Was OK For Ennis But Not For Benn?
Eddie Hearn believes there is a double standard when it comes to the blowback he has received regarding the latest choice of opponent for rising welterweight Conor Benn.
Benn, the son of famed two-division world champion Nigel Benn, is slated to take on tough but shopworn veteran Chris van Heerden of South Africa on April 16 at Manchester Arena in Manchester.
The selection of van Heerden for Benn, thought to be one of the leading lights of the next generation of British boxing, was met with a collective groan by the boxing world, which was led to believe that a bigger name was in the works. Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, had mentioned possible opponents such as Adrien Broner and Maurice Hooker.
Hearn thinks that the criticism Benn (20-0, 13 KO) has received for fighting van Heerden (28-2-1, 12 KOs) is disingenuous, considering that he does not recall that Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, the southpaw from Philadelphia who is regarded as one of the most talented, young welterweights in the sport, experienced a similar degree of censure from the public; Ennis (28-0, 26 KOs) was van Heerden’s last fight, which was declared a no decision in the first round after van Heerden suffered a cut from an accidental headbutt.
“Let’s get one thing straight: [It was] 18 months ago, yes, but Van Heerden’s last fight was against Boots Ennis headlining on Showtime,” Hearn told Seconds Out. “And 18 months ago it was okay for Boots Ennis but it’s not okay for Conor Benn?”
Hearn, to be fair, had a deal consummated for Hooker to fight Benn, but Hooker, the former junior welterweight titlist from Dallas, Texas, had to back out after sustaining an injury. Hence van Heerden.
“Hooker accepted the fight. We did the deal with Hooker and then he pulled out a week later with a back injury,” Hearn said. “Van Heerden’s a good fight for Conor Benn. He’s a southpaw. He’s (Benn) not fought a competitive southpaw his whole career.”
“I think this is a real fight,” Hearn continued. “Van Heerden will come to fight. He’s extremely competitive. He’s strong.
“But I think you’re going to see why I believe one of the biggest stars in British boxing is Conor Benn.”

Isn't it an instant sell out? I heard he was a superstar.
Re: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden | DAZN - 16 April 2022
Hearn did the same - pushing Benn vs Brook/Khan/Broner as the massive fight that follows this one.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑21 Mar 2022, 13:00 Just hearing Frank Smith hyping up a Khan fight for Benn after this one.

In the same interview he did some fairly desperate 'subscribe to DAZN' pleas too. I would absolutely love to see their subscriber numbers right now.

Nope.
Haha.
He’s a good name for sure, but there’s only so many opponents he can face before fans demand a good opponent.

And it’s not even the whole of the lower tier either.
Benn should be fighting at the Altrincham Ice Arena.
Never mind the AO arena.
Was it you Dioufy who said you only got tickets cus ur mrs loves Benn?
Re: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden | DAZN - 16 April 2022
Yeah.
I’d never go to this as I live in Milton Keynes and it’s not a great card at all but I’m in Doncaster for the football over night on the Friday before so it’s only 90 mins to Manchester from there.
Benn ends it early. If Chris gets on his bike it’s Adrian Grenados repeated.

Brook did a number on khan and his defeats have been against Spence Crawford and GGG
Khan won’t step foot in the ring again
Broner is also a legit fight. it feels like a walk over for benn, but broner would teach him something

Brook being heavily linked to a Eubank fight.
Benn will keep fighting top 30 welters until a vacant belt comes along.

Hearn: Kell Brook Wants 10 Million To Face Conor Benn
“I made an offer to Kell Brook, which was more money than he made to fight Amir Khan. He asked for £10 million, which was quite a way off what I offered, to be fair. I was like, ‘f------ hell!’. Then Khan’s guys came on and said, ‘How much would you pay to fight Amir?,'" Hearn said to The Sun.
“I gave them the same offer I gave Kell and they said, ‘Surely Amir should get more?’ I said, ‘But he’s just lost to Kell’, so everyone has gone mad. I would make either one of those fights, if Amir is going to fight again. That’s a really interesting set-up, because [Khan has] activated the rematch clause [for Brook].
“But Sky only have to do the rematch if it is commercially viable. They don’t want it to go elsewhere — but they don’t really want to do it. Then Amir and his lawyers are saying to me, ‘Do you want to do it if Sky don’t?’ And I’m like, ‘Not really’, and he’s like, ‘Oh sh!t!’. But we might do it if the deal is right. Amir in my opinion doesn’t want it anyway. He’s pretending he wants it. I’d do Amir against Conor Benn. I said to Conor, ‘You’re 25, in such a good position’. We’ll see what happens after April 16.”

Bellend Hearn said on IFL over the weekend that 2/3 extra fights will get announced for this on Monday or Tuesday.
It’s Wednesday. No news.
Anyone have an idea?
If it’s Sky Nicholson I’ll kick right off.
No opponent for Campbell yet. After his last performance anyone think he would be okay against Myron Mills for the English or too soon?
Failing that… the British title is vacant.
Joking so calm then fornicate down.

Re: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden | DAZN - 16 April 2022
she reminds me of a lot of kickboxers who move to boxing. good movement, but very slappy flailing punches with no oomph or snap. both her fights she basically moved at track meet levels, ocassionally slapping out the jab and looking awkwardly girly whenever she'd throw anything other than that. her first opponent gave her a shiner i think, but she did indeed look shades of ali vs bec connelly
she's like that canadian chick with 0 stoppages. i give her props for her movement but she's got that weak, flimsy, slappy thing going on that so many of the birds do, just cant get into it no matter how attractive she is. big tyson aint pretty at least ktfos dudes here and there and can put it on when he wants

Fury has that girly loose slappy technique too. Just happens to be 20 stone.
It's effective I'd you got enough to keep people at bay... Sky will have to sit on the odd shot a bit more probably, or else put on 13 stone... But that might hurt her endorsement deals.

Re: Conor Benn vs. Chris van Heerden | DAZN - 16 April 2022
in women's boxing there's nothing special about being a hit and run slapper with nothing on your shots. par for the course actually, it's like they trained their legs for movement but cant fight from the waist up. loads of lady furys out there if he's the comparison. so far sky just basically moves non stop and places out a couple weak jabs that are more like her extending her arm than throwing a punch. its unfortunate she has such a boring negative style because she's obviously going to be forced on us as eddie's new girl
fury can sit down and beat ppl up when he wants though, actually quite a good in fighter. i remember the first chiz fight, he stood toe to toe with him and battered him at his own game with uppercuts and body shots. absolutely wrecked wilder when he put it on him rather than dancing away too. and grinded down cunningham the same way after his initial approach didnt work so well. maybe the most versatile fighter at hw and capable of koing dudes when he gets aggressive
