Bivol has entered the top 10, however, Canelo remains #1.
There are some who have dropped him to #2.
Dmitry Bivol is rated 8th by ESPN, 9th by TBRB and 8th by The RING.

Now Bivol saying he’s not 100% sure he can make 168.

Bivol at 168 would be a crippled man who is gonna get KTFO'd by Canelo. Rematch at 175 or fight GGG and then the 175lbs kingpin.
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
He's an idiot for even mentioning it. Also, the contact for the rematch will not be in his favor. I have a feeling the payday might be too much for him to refuse, though. All the makings of Ward/Dawson if Bivol drains down to 168.
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
Canelo looked like death making 152 for Mayweather. Bivol is a lean LHW. I don't know where he can find the weight to drain. He is a small LHW, but only because LHWs are looking like the most notorious drainer.
LHW atm reminds me of 154 when it was Lara, Angulo, Canelo, Kirkland, etc. They were all draining like 15-20 lbs or so to make weight.

If Bivol would get 20 M's to fight at 168lbs for Canelo's smw titles then its an assumption of risk.
Anyway did Bivol receive his money?

Canelo weighed 153.5 in the fight before Floyd. He did not look drained.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑14 May 2022, 03:10Canelo looked like death making 152 for Mayweather. Bivol is a lean LHW. Knowing what he's up against I figure Canelo CAN convincingly win 4 rounds next time out and therefore the fight.
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
bivol ko this time out, bivol was warming into it to it 2nd half of the fight also the pressure of knowing saul is always going to be up 3rds from the off, bivol will ko saul if they rematch i dont think saul will rematch he will study it realise he cant win
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
He never made 154 again after that fight, and he did look drained.tiny_acres wrote: ↑14 May 2022, 12:37Canelo weighed 153.5 in the fight before Floyd. I think Canelo has looked drained at a couple of his 168 weigh ins. Actually he did, about 4 or 5 fights later for the Liam Smith fight. He was fighting at "Caneloweight", 155 in between that.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑14 May 2022, 19:23He never made 154 again after that fight, and he did look drained.tiny_acres wrote: ↑14 May 2022, 12:37Canelo weighed 153.5 in the fight before Floyd. Floyd beating Canelo because he was weight drained?
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
did saul go vegan for this fight aswell, he did look one geared in the fight, didnt have spark
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
#1 I think he took Bivol too lightly, and didn't have a plan B game plan. Canelo was loading up on everything, wasted a lot of energy early, and lacked stamina late.
#2 He ran into a guy that was superbly skilled, that had the perfect game plan, and executed it perfectly. Canelo couldn't adjust, and got frustrated.
#3 Some may think I'm nuts, but I think Canelo would benefit from a trainer change, possibly a team change. Or, maybe it's him, getting to the point where he is such a diva, won't listen....isn't coach-able anymore? Is he surrounded by a bunch of yes men? He is too used to everyone cow-towing to him it seems to me. (Including judges and all the ABC orgs)

I didn't even mention that Mayweather beat Canelo because he was weight drained. Floyd beating Canelo because he was weight drained?Canelo was 23 at the time he fought Floyd, and as we all know it is easier to lose weight when younger. Canelo shot his mouth off earlier in the year and told Floyd he would cut to 150. Floyd, at 36, was nice, making it at 152, and moved up 5lbs to fight the younger, fresher Canelo. Canelo moved up 7lbs to fight Bivol.
I forgot about the Liam Smith fight, but around that time, 100% he started experimenting with certain beefs. Just because you're young doesn't mean anything. Canelo looked the worst I've ever seen him in weight ins against Mayweather. He's been looking fine at weigh in now.
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
Finally got to see the fight.
Yes Bivol won legitimately no complaints about the decision.
The rematch, Canelo is more than capable of turning it around.
Bivol came to the table with a good jab, a satisfactory right hand and showed the ability to take a decent shot and was physically in good condition and never showed any signs of stamina issues.
Bivol showed that he could throw punches in bunches and back up Canelo from time to time too, Bivol never looked shaken at all throughout the fight.
So what was it, Why did Canelo lose.
I think part of it other than what`s been mentioned above appeared to be motivation, Canelo looked flat and uninterested.
Canelo never really tried hard to slip the constant Bivol jab which was a major point scorer in the fight, however I kept asking myself how effective Bivol would be without the jab should Canelo be able to take that away from him.
I also think Canelo should invest way more on the body attack early and pay less attention to the hooks upstairs during that period.
Canelo has way more in him than that performance if you ask me, a few adjustments and fired up mentally and he could win the rematch.
Bivol is a steady looking boxer and paces himself very well, I think Canelo will have to pick and choose his moments of when to intensify the bout should they go to the rematch and the early body attack may just lay the foundations for a second half onslaught.
I say that because Bivol certainly woke up from round 6 onwards and appeared much more confident about himself, so Canelo might want to give that some thought.

Didn't you say Canelo looked like death making 152. Or was that someone else? Generally I equate a statement like that to mean he was weight drained.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑14 May 2022, 21:09I didn't even mention that Mayweather beat Canelo because he was weight drained. You are right about Canelo experimenting wirth certain beefs. Mexican clenbuterol beef, that is. Lol
Canelo has been a weight bully for years. He finally fought near his walking around weight against elite competition. Manny Pac did that for years, and never got the credit he deserved for doing that. Canelo could never succeed with same day weigh ins.
Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
Definitely rematch Bivol at the earliest date.

It's these little things that can make all the difference.
Apparently same day weigh ins were not abandoned due to concerns for the safety of the boxers but rather as a result of commercial ones.
According to the post below, Michael Spinks refusing to fight Eddie Mustapha Muhammad way back in 1983, after his opponent failed to make weight, gave the promoters palpitations. As a result they decided that this must never happen again and that was the beginning of the end of same day weigh-ins and the start of the era of rehydration.

There is no precise date for the switch-over of the rules, from same-day to day-before, but it was almost universally adopted by 1990.Thomastearns wrote: ↑16 May 2022, 10:41Bandog wrote: ↑15 May 2022, 21:00Didn't you say Canelo looked like death making 152. There were fights that took place in the late eighties that were same day weigh-in's.
The IBF still requires same-day weigh-in's.

Bivol v Canelo 1 has only just occurred and Hearn saying announcement on Canelo next fight will be next week.
If the WBA want to call for the mandatory Zurdo Ramirez v Bivol fight, then maybe that’s the urgency to get Bivol v Canelo 2 over the line …?

Re: Dmitry Bivol vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez II - Who wins?
Could be? Honestly Bivol vs Zurdo is a better fight. Canelo just needs to bow his head and call it a bridge too far.
At 168 though, he has Andrade, Benevidez, and David Morell. None are easy wins. I think Canelo retires a lot sooner than folks think. Golf is easier, and has enough $. He'll take the GGG fight next, then probably retire, if his ego allows it.
