He’d likely have went in the next round but he did have good recovery as evidenced by the Lyle fight.

Anyone with more than 20 pro loses in their record should lose their boxing licence for life.

George would have had a minute's rest immediately. He might well have gone on to lose, but we will never know. I think we do know that there is no way that Ali would have been counted out whilst getting up in the same manner.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 19:44George was done anywaymargaret thatcher wrote: ↑15 Jun 2022, 18:14 i dont think george was counted out prematurely, the footage that usually does the rounds has bob sheridan on commentary messing up the count , which leads a lot of ppl to think it was early
george was down for at least 10 (he touches down at 11 seconds on the clock and is still down at 0) and i cant see where the refs off

- Joe Calzaghe's whole career was massively underwhelming
- Jack Dempsey was the equivalent of a British area titlist
- Women's boxing is pathetic (however I'm not sure that this is so unpopular)

British journeymen are shit, not wanted and add nothing to the sport.
If you don’t come to win I cannot respect you as a boxer.
The one thing the States does better than us. Do not tolerate these mugs with 2-35 records.
Essential to the sport? Hahaha

Re: Confess your unpopular opinions about Boxing
I fully agree with this. There’s an argument that with journeyman then certain fighters wouldn’t fight without them but if fighters are only willing or able to fight journeyman (either because they don’t want to risk fighting someone trying to win or that their original opponent pulled out late in the day) then it’s just not worth it.
Re: Confess your unpopular opinions about Boxing
There’s a place for them in British boxing… but it’s filler fights where a journeyman is fighting another journeyman.maverick23 wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 13:38I fully agree with this. Should be a way of ranking fighters officially globally where they can’t be a 50 place difference between fighters.
Can’t be having fighters ranked 50 by Boxrec fighting someone 450.
I hate it. It’s not entertaining and it’s dangerous.

I’ve been to loads of am shows and yet to see one fighter not try. Sometimes it’s clear there’s a big difference in ability but at the start of the fight both guys are trying to win and that usually remains throughout the fight.Dioufy wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 13:41There’s a place for them in British boxing… but it’s filler fights where a journeyman is fighting another journeyman.maverick23 wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 13:38I fully agree with this. At times watching some pro fights where one guy simply doesn’t try to win I stop thinking of it as a sport as one person isn’t trying their best.
I don’t think there’s a place for them anymore. I know that’s probably a controversial opinion and it’ll cause havoc on small hall shows (and FW’s) but if someone’s not trying to win then they shouldn’t be allowed to fight.

Re: Confess your unpopular opinions about Boxing
I get that it’s a job for them and a stoppage leads to a ban (is it still 28 days?). And some of these guys have fights lined up every weekend so a stoppage loss means they lose income. So it makes sense that they fight negatively at times as their livelihood is literally on the line. Plus the knowledge that if they try and somehow nick a fight the judges are very likely to score a shutout the other way.maverick23 wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 13:47I’ve been to loads of am shows and yet to see one fighter not try. A loss in a British ring should get you a month ban no matter how it happens.
I would like fighters with losing records edged out the game. Controversial I know but it’s my feeling.
Re: Confess your unpopular opinions about Boxing
Maybe I've gone a bit too far with the area title level. However I just feel Dempsey is massively overrated. I've seen as many of his fights as I can - but I'm not impressed. I get that it was a different era, rugged, no one wanting to be seen as a "runner" (prior Ali), however when I look at Dempsey, I just see someone with no boxing ability. Yea he's fit and tough, but that's all I see. If I could have seen how Dempsey would have approached a fight with Johnson, my opinion may differ. Joe Louis wasn't too far afterwards in the grand scheme of things, but he appears to be 100 years ahead of Dempsey scientifically.jimmystone wrote: ↑19 Jun 2022, 13:48Fits the topic well. It's certainly an unpopular opinion with me. How have you worked that out?

McDermott wasn’t robbed vs fury
Heron graham has been unbelievably overrated with time. How many chances do you want him to have?

Re: Confess your unpopular opinions about Boxing
I hate fights in the UK like the Gorman and Kelly fights that are 10 rounders or non title fights being 12.
In the US a lot of chief supports are 8 rounds and non title fight main events being 10.
Feel you get more exciting over 8 rounds for undercard fights and if it’s one-sided it won’t go on for too long.
12 fights for any meaningful title fights tho.
Would love to see Gorman/Salak over 8 and Chis/Pulev over 10.

Lomachenko is a cherry picker and overrated as a pro.
Canelo isn’t a top 100 ATG
Tyson Fury would get beat by Joe Louis
Hopkins out landed Joe Calzaghe
