Saunders had some good wins on his record. Doesn't deserve to be mentioned in this thread

His fights with Leushing are small hall classics.

Scrap Iron Ryan could box and could definitely hit but he couldn't take a punch. He got slightly lucky against Hale with a clash of heads and everyone had seen how poor his punch resistance was but it wasn't to be for Hale. Obviously subsequent fights proved just what everyone knew. Apparently still sparking people out in his cab after them giving him lip.

Who was the guy who had that pretty drab 12 rounder against Carl Wright who had a brain bleed? I think he made one defence then lost it on the merry go round at 140. Mark Winters.

This. I look at Chris Saunders' record and think fornicating hell, fair play mate. Something to tell his grand children when they grow up. The Leon Williams fight against Norton was sus. Norton always struck me as really shy and like he would be hard to promote. How good was he?

Norton could really fight, a banger too, but also an awkward spoiler, I was in Belfast when he beat Corbett hands down, unfortunately for Rob our Tel was reffing.

I remember the late 80's with the Super-featherweight title and no champion was unable to defend the belt, win and lose in your first defence, quite a few names in that list got lucky to be able to call themselves a British champion

I know I mentioned but if anyone remembers Deveney getting comprehensively outboxed by Jon Jo Irwin in the mid 90s - Irwin was a solid European Level operator but not really world class, but he won every second of every round against Deveney clearly.

Especially when you think of that time was a golden period for the Featherweights with the likes of McMillan, Hardy, Hodkinson, McKenzie, Robinson etc.

Irwin was a good boxer. Better than good. He won the aba and had some decent wins/fights. His only real issue was a lack of power. He could cut too but most boxers do. Decent chin too

Yeah - would have been a good fight between him and Barry Jones - both very technical - sorry I wasn't meaning it as a "dig" at Deveney cos it was JJ Irwin - It was just probably one of the more one sided British title fights I have seen, especially as it was the champion getting outclassed.
