Callum Smith vs. Mathieu Bauderlique - 20 August 2022

Enjoyed that fight, French kid looked lively but very much out of his depth.

Interesting to hear his corner call for the jab, but Smith just ignore them and walk his opponent down. I suppose sometimes a fighter can make up his own mind without the advice from the corner.

Curious what the plan is for Smith at LHW, was that fight some sort of eliminator or something? If so, what belt?

It was a final eliminator for WBC that Beterbiev holds

He’s got Yarde next.. so Smith will have to wait.

So it is likely we will see Smith bashing up a few more mediocre fighters until he fights one of the top guys then. Great....

Smith was one of my favourite fighters a few years back, but much of his career has been spent semmingly treading water.

If he has to wait 12 months to fight Artur then he should at least have a decent domestic dust up with someone like Craig Richards.

i think it will be 2 years. Beterbiev’s last WBC mando was Marcus Browne, so after WBO Yarde will be the IBF mando (Buatsi / Pascal …. ?)

at some point bert should go for a undisputed fight if he keeps winning, i doubt he just fights mandatory after mandatory nonstop

Ah of course, unified guys have slightly different rules.

I imagine Eddie's dream will be to force Artur to vacate a belt and try to do Smith vs Buatsi for the vacant strap, but I can't see that happening.

More likely Smith will keep beating up alsorans (and looking good doing it) until an opportunity presents itself.

Can't blame him really, it is just a slightly disappointing career trajectory for a man who had so much potential and clearly still has plenty to offer.

Yep , knew he had the power to overcome but took far too many that he couldn't afford to up a level .
I suppose McGirt and his team knew that but don't think they'd be fully happy with what they saw .

He is usually quite technical, not that he can't bang, but he does know how to box behind a rather nice long jab.
I thought it weird, and his team were understandibly asking for it.
As you say, he cannot do that at the next level.

Smith was all business against a reasonable opponent who came to win. Compare Smith's overall opposition he has beaten to Yarde....and Callum is infinitely more exciting to watch.

Sometime the analysis should take a back seat and just enjoy an excellent shoot out.

I love these sort of fights where both boxers are going for the finish with every punch and are desperately needed on some the big shows that often underwhelm.

That's very true , as the other undercard heavyweight fight it was an entertaining watch .

callum's a bit of strange one, it's like he only ever looks explosive or lackluster, no in between. bit of a plodder and somewhat open but clearly has firepower and a wicked hook, some interesting fights for him out there

It's quite plausible. He was fūcking humongous at 168, and is still huge at 175.

Absolutely, looking at the size of him at 175 it's hard to believe he fought at super middle for so long.

There are times you just want to be entertained with an edge of your seat thriller and this was a cracking fight, albeit fairly brief, and give Bauderlique his dues...he played his part and went out on his shield. No question of him looking for a soft spot on the canvas !

This is what provides the hook that lures fans into boxing.
