He definitely gets done by Mosley and Forrest but could he have beat Mayorga? Probably not. If he got a shot at Mayorga after Mayorga had beaten Forrest, i'd have given him a small chance. He was a decent boxer. James Hare was a good shout. He had a big win over Bergman I believe with a classy looking shot. Stopped by unheralded Cosme Rivera with many losses next in a very tough contest. Rivera was then destroyed easily and punched so hard by Judah that he started laughing. I don't think he knew what was going on. That showed the levels really.
He never got a chance at the big stage.

Couldn’t get the fights unfortunately.

His career is a ‘what if’

Wasn`t Ellis going to be the first billion dollar athlete?
That was the hype!

He was very over hyped too.

I can't remember if it was him or the Israeli heavy around at the same time(Roman someone) who was going to be the first!

His time came before the WBO and WBU, in those days he would have needed to win the European title for a shot.
He was British champ in a very weak era and just wasn't big enough at a higher level

How about Tony Sibson, commonwealth and european title holder and 3 time world title challenger? Unfortunate one of the shots was against Hagler, I think Hagler said once Sibson was the hardest puncher he faced.

I used to love watching Pat Barrett, the man could bang. Unfortunately, he faced a slippery guy in Manning Galloway for the world title, wrong style.
Saying that, the champions around that time at light welter and welter were pretty impressive.

Thats harsh to say that about his drinking.

How can you forget also that he could have also ruined a lot more packets of crisps too.

Loose cannon Darren Dyer looked a good bet when turning pro after winning the 1986 ABA and Commonwealth games gold.
He then got matched with Del Bryan in his 2nd pro fight and lost on points, no shame there. But got shockingly stopped by Trevor Mortimer 3 fights later. Dyer managed a bit of a run, before some odd match making when he stepped up against Jorge Maysonet and got wiped out in 2 rounds, Maysonet may of been damaged goods but has a world class punch.
Oddly that loss lead onto Dyers best spell as a pro avenging his losses to Bryan and Mortimer and blowing away Ian John Lewis. But when Dyer tried stepping up again he was KO'd for a minor belt

Good blast from the past! Was it also Dyer who allegedly went after Honeyghan with a hammer in the gym?

Yeah Dyer hit Honeyghan with a hammer at the weigh in for Andy Till vs Wally Swift jnr.
I've not heard the reasons behind the attack though

And he was a world champion - briefly WBC Champ.

I think most of his "looking like a world beater" was based on him giving DLH a black eye and Oscar basically saying Ortiz was giving him hell - that was though in the build up to the Manny Pac fight.

ortiz looked excellent coming up and was world class for a time. offensively he was an elite fighter - look at how he bounced maidana and peterson and berto off the canvas. he just couldnt hold it together well when someone kept at him
