Because of their upbringing, religion, culture or personal beliefs, some people are going to be racist, sexist and/or homophobic. As long as they're not hurting anyone, I think there is a place in the world for them.

She is very marketable. That's why she has got some gift decisions.
Re: Katie Taylor Named The Most Marketable Boxer In The World
The issue I'm sure isn't with calling her Marketable. It's with calling her "The Most Marketable"TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑19 Dec 2022, 14:18 She is very marketable. That's why she has got some gift decisions.
The most high profile Women's Boxing match possible in the World I guess would be Katie Taylor vs Claressa Shields I guess right? As far as name recognition of both combatants.
Canelo vs Your Uncle Cletus. Would do bigger numbers.

Yeah but most marketable doesn’t mean which boxer will sell the most.gilgamesh wrote: ↑19 Dec 2022, 14:26The issue I'm sure isn't with calling her Marketable. Fury will sell plenty but there aren’t many blue chip brands that would want to be associated with him.
Katie Taylor is as clear cut as they come and seems to have values that companies would want to be linked with. After decades of male sportsmen being the focus of companies, far more are wanting to work with women now so I can fully understand why the ‘experts’ would have her high up the list.

she was more clean cut and less divisive (aka boring) than the likes of fury, canelo, aj, wilder, floyd, and many other athletes on there long before this too, so why was she unranked and only at the top of this list now if that's what it's about? did she have some lingering offensiveness to her that she shaved off? just look at who's been on that list, it's clearly not a ranking just of who is the least controversial
what the hell is being marketable if it's not something's ability to be sold? if we were all promoters and could choose 1 boxer alive to max our sales and market to the masses, who would honestly say taylor? if she is the most marketable, she's been absolutely horrendously managed and robbed blind

A promoter is there to sell an event and she wouldn’t be at the top or close to the top (granted they did great to sell out the Garden - only boxing headliner to sell it out this year?).margaret thatcher wrote: ↑19 Dec 2022, 14:35 she was way more clean cut and less divisive than the likes of fury, canelo, floyd, and many other athletes on there long before this too, so why is she only at the top of this list now if that's what it's about? did she have some lingering offensiveness to her that she shaved off?

Most blue chip companies want people who are clean cut, don’t offend anyone and have similar values to those that the company wants to portray that they have. Taylor has a he qualities and will also benefit in the list because of companies in the last few years wanting to work with women more and more.
I’m taking the list as to which people major companies would want to work with. Not those who would sell the most product/services because they’re different. Fury would sell more/generate more interest being associated to a company. Not many would want to work with him though given his past comments.

ya, and like i said, if that's what marketable is where the hell was she before, when the likes of fury, floyd, aj, canelo, wilder, and other 'controversial' dudes were all ranked? she's been less divisive (aka boring) than them for years now

Putting her face on a Bottle of Gatorade as opposed to Tyson Fury, etc.

Not sure. This is the first time I’ve seen the list!margaret thatcher wrote: ↑19 Dec 2022, 14:52 ya, and like i said, if that's what marketable is where the hell was she before, when the likes of fury, floyd, aj, canelo, wilder, and other 'controversial' dudes were all ranked? she's been less divisive (aka boring) than them for years now
Floyd was probably high on the list when he was at his peak but I’d imagine the proportion of women on the list has grown over the last 5 years and I’d also imagine the amount of controversial sports people has reduced because of the cancel culture we now have.

Katie Taylor wins RTÉ Sport’s Sportswoman of the Year Award 2022
Katie Taylor wins RTÉ Sportswoman of the Year award for the third time
The star-studded event, hosted by Jacqui Hurley, Evanne Ní Chuilinn and Ruby Walsh, was a celebration of a brilliant year for Irish sport
Undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor was crowned RTÉ Sport’s Sportswoman of the Year for the third time.
The champion remains undefeated in all 22 professional fights, adding two more victories this year, first at the iconic Madison Square Garden with a career-defining victory over great rival Amanda Serrano and then Argentina’s Karen Elizabeth Carabajal in London. The epic clash with Serrano made history as the first ever female fight to headline at the Garden, then further broke records when it reached an audience of 1.5 million on DAZN to become a record-breaking night for the sport.
36-year-old Taylor joined the ceremony via live satellite broadcast, while her older brother, Dr. Peter Taylor Jr., accepted the award on her behalf.
“I really wish I could have been there,” said Taylor, who joined the ceremony via live satellite broadcast. “I am very grateful. This year has been a particularly exceptional one for Irish sport.”
Raidió Teilifís Éireann, better known by its acronym RTÉ, is the largest public broadcasting corporation in the Republic of Ireland.
RTÉ was founded in December 1960, although Irish public radio began broadcasting in 1926. It is a corporation controlled through a council appointed by the Irish Government.
It is the third time the Bray boxer has won the award after also winning it in 2012 and 2020.
Rowing duo Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy were crowned the RTE Sport Team of the Year.
The RTE Sport Manager of the Year went to Vera Pauw after she led Ireland to World Cup qualification, while sprint sensation Rhasidat Adeleke was named the RTE Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year.
Finally, Cork GAA legend Jimmy Barry-Murphy was inducted into the RTE Sport Hall of Fame.

It’s kind of weird reading people doing mental gymnastics to try to get this to make sense
Katie Taylor is not, in reality, the most marketable boxer in the world, by any measurable metric.

She is very marketable IMO. Canelo and Fury are both proven drug cheats and some of the other top boxers swear loads in interviews etc. I'm not saying they shouldn't, but if you're looking to market someone, you would choose someone with mass appeal.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑21 Dec 2022, 08:22 It’s kind of weird reading people doing mental gymnastics to try to get this to make sense![]()

Katie Taylor doesn’t have genuine mass market appeal in the real world though, that’s the whole point. She’s not even well-known with the British public at all, let alone the rest of the world. The whole thing seems to be some bizarre theoretical fantasy, and certainly not rooted in actual reality.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑21 Dec 2022, 08:49She is very marketable IMO. I suppose it depends on what you're trying to market. She would be ideal for some things and not so good for others.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑21 Dec 2022, 09:02Katie Taylor doesn’t have genuine mass market appeal in the real world though, that’s the whole point. It is not sexist to call this nonsense out for the complete tosh it is.
One simple question puts its to bed:
If you had a business and could choose a boxer to front your marketing campaign, would you even chose Katie Taylor over Amir Khan?
That’s to say nothing of AJ, Eubank Jr, Usyk or even Fury and Canelo if you chose to set the drugs tests aside.

However that doesn’t matter unless big companies want to work with those people. Few big companies would touch Fury based on his previous comments and the only company I think he’s got any association with is that his energy drink is in Iceland which proves that.
Big companies are wanting to show they’re more inclusive than ever. That’s why nearly half of the top 50 are women. I bet the % split between male/female has never been so close.

Sky Brown is higher up the list than Katie Taylor. I had no clue who she was. Apparently is worth £4m and has a multi-million £ deal with Nike plus loads of other deals. She’s 14, British and wouldn’t be recognised by probably 99% of the population if she walked down the street.

I think we can pretty much all agree that the list is nonsensical.
