This guy sounds good from everyone I’ve heard him in with. But his opponents average record is like 0.3-0.1-0 or somthing hahah.

At 18 I’d rather see him stay amature another 2 years. Try box the olympics (if boxing remains part of Paris)… good to get some adult fights in where losing is fine and part of the game.

So, while it may show that his opponents are debuting or are 0-1 etc, rest assured that most of his recent opponents are multi-time national underage amateur champions with dozens if not 100+ fights.

Yes, he is very young, still a junior amateur, a complete baby for a professional.

Of course he needs more experience, to learn his trade etc

Nevertheless for me this is one of the most exciting prospects to turn over in many years.

As far as the heavies go , Jay Macfarlane turned pro as a teenager.

And in Germany Tom Schwartz and ilja mezencev were both about 18 when they first fought..... Their two grudge fights are interesting to watch if you want to see two youngsters with vastly different styles and approaches.

The first fight clearly shows the difference....Tom Schwartz seems much more seasoned and mature despite no record of any major amateur experience.

Obviously fwank sees something in Itauma....we'll have to wait and see.

As he's 18 it would be great if they put him out regularly even if it's against Johnny paychecks so he can build a large 0 record like Charles Martin and Bryant Jennings did, they fought almost once a month !!!!!

Been watching whatever amateur footage I can find of him, he does look the business but in this modern earer of 5 fights a year, can't see him being anywhere near a world title fight by the time he is Tyson's age. I think Tyson fought 15 times in his first year, that just doesn't happen anymore.

Tyson was 20 years 150 days old, that gives Moses 2 and a half years. If one of the current champs retires/vacates all the belts - it'd definitely doable in that time-frame, especially if he gets an AJ-Martin style fight.

Moses Itauma: "I Just Want To Go Step-By-Step To Fulfill My Ambition"

“I keep getting asked, ‘what are your thoughts on becoming the youngest world heavyweight champion?’” Itauma said. “That’s not what I am thinking about now. I’m not preparing to fight Tyson Fury on January 28. I’m preparing for my pro debut. Everyone is skipping all the steps to get to this accomplishment.

“I just want to go step-by-step to fulfill my ambition. I am pretty certain that Mike Tyson wasn’t thinking he was going to be the youngest world heavyweight champion before his pro debut. I’m pretty sure he had some fights and then he thought of doing that.

“I’m not comparing myself to Mike Tyson. I want to have my pro debut, then have a few fights and then maybe the comparisons can start. But as of now I haven’t even stepped in a pro ring yet.”

“The sparring that AJ had for the Usyk fight seemed wrong,” Itauma said. “He had a 6ft 10in German southpaw and I’m thinking ‘why would you have that?’ But he would only spar six rounds, then do three rounds on the bag, three rounds on the pads. He didn’t really do a full 12-round spar. But the sparring he had was mediocre.

“I didn’t get called back for the second fight but I wasn’t really meant to spar him for the first one, it was coincidental. I was training up in Sheffield when he was training then I was asked if I wanted to spar. I said ‘why not?’ Because at the time I was struggling to get sparring. I was quite confused why they never brought me back, but I am not stressing about that.”

“Me and my brother sat down and wrote down the pros and cons of turning pro,” he said. “When we did that, the pros just looked better than the amateurs and the fear that the Olympics are not even guaranteed to take place.

“I did get told that if I was to stay amateur, I would be picked over the current boxer that is there.”

Nothing more than an educated guess on my part, but have to wonder if Karol has been so protected to date to ensure Moses would sign up as well - giving older brother the best possible treatment is surely the easiest way to guarantee younger brother with the greater potential opts for the same route. Not quite a loss leader, but you get my point...
