Max Golovkin (GGGs twin brother)
Supposedly even better than Gennady, anyone know much about his amateur career or record?

it's always the lesser known bro who's the better one it seems, at least that's what often gets said
ggg was a great amateur who won loads of stuff. if this guy was better than him surely he'd have plenty of big results that could be easily found

Babe Ruth had a Brother that could've hit 85 Home Runs, but he was just so good he decided he didn't wanna outshine his Brothermargaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 15:15 it's always the lesser known bro who's the better one it seems, at least that's what often gets said

I think it is true that sometimes there is a brother who is more naturally talented than the successful brother. But more naturally talented doesn't mean better.gilgamesh wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 15:23Babe Ruth had a Brother that could've hit 85 Home Runs, but he was just so good he decided he didn't wanna outshine his Brothermargaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 Jan 2023, 15:15 it's always the lesser known bro who's the better one it seems, at least that's what often gets said

I've been trying to find any results for Max. Not one.
If he was so good where are the wins?

ya, maybe he looked a beast in the gym or in some very local fights, but if he'd done antthing of note internationally or even nationally you'd think there'd be at least some record
now, being ggg's twin, im sure he had plenty of potential at some level, but doesnt look like he ever proved it in any major way

The twins were both winning titles for fun but when it came to the 2004 Athens Olympics there was only room for one of them to go at middleweight for Kazakhstan.
“He was always the better boxer,” Golovkin said. “He had power too but he was better schooled than me, that amateur schooling.
“It would have been different if he went to the Olympics - it was 50-50 for us at this time because there was a competition in Kazakhstan and whoever won would go to the Olympics.
“Whoever was No.1 would go to the Olympics. He said to me ‘G, you’re 15 minutes older than me, you go first’.
“I said OK - the rest is history. When I turned professional Max stayed home to care for the family.”
Golovkin claimed silver in Athens after losing to Russian Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov in the middleweight final.

It reminds me of Linford Christie. He said once that he knew guys who were quicker than him when they were young. But they didn't put the graft in, whereas Christie obviously did.
