Bakole vs Dubois would be a great fight. Also would like to seem against Parker, but can't see BOXXER risking that.

Heavyweight contender Martin Bakole is planning to force a crack at WBA "regular" champion Daniel Dubois.

Bakole has been out of the ring since May of 2022, when he picked up a stunning decision win over Olympic gold medal winner Tony Yoka.

He is expected to become a lot busier in 2023 - after signing a promotional agreement with Ben Shalom's Boxxer.

Ranked at number two under the WBA, and nobody currently ranked at number one, may lead to a Dubois vs. Bakole showdown.

Oleksandr Usyk holds the WBA's "super" title at heavyweight. He is currently engaged in serious negotiations for a unification showdown with Tyson Fury.

Shalom believes the WBA is close to ordering a Dubois vs. Bakole mandatory fight.

"I think they're about to order a mandatory for Daniel, Martin wants that title. Martin is top of the tree in the WBA now," Shalom said to Sky Sports.

"With his win against Tony Yoka, he was so impressive to go out and do that in Paris against a former Olympic champion. On the circuit he's possibly the most avoided heavyweight out there. Delighted to have him. I think he could challenge for world titles very soon.

"Martin backs himself in any fight in the heavyweight division. Daniel Dubois is on his list and Billy Nelson [Bakole's trainer] has been talking about him for a long time and they're ready to go. It's definitely that title that we have our eyes on. Obviously Daniel's injured at the moment. But luckily with Martin he will fight anyone. They could pick any name for him to fight for that title and he would take it. So we've got a very, very good heavyweight that's willing to fight anyone. That's a perfect mix."
Great fight if it gets called by the WBA. If Shalom can get the funds to outbid Frank then that would be a statement.
And the WBA title would likely quickly get relinquished.

It's situations like that where a boxer should question who's best interests their promoter has at heart. Getting a mandatory for the full title through the WBA Regular belt is Dubois' only route to a title shot within the next 2 years and any defences of that regular belt gives him a champions split so if Frank was to get Dubois to relinquish is just so he doesn't fight on another platform then it's a big setback for Dubois' career and bank balance.

When's Martin likely to be out next? Taylor-Lopez card if it goes ahead?

Taylor Lopez is a TR card.

Probably will end up on Sky tbh and in promotion eith Boxxer.

So maybe.

I doubt they’ll have him out on the Okolie card.

My guess is that it will be a rematch with Hunter. Over the past few months Bakole's side have expressed an interest in that rematch while Hunter has been offered two fights with Hughie and a fight with Massey by Boxxer, none of which eventually came together. Hunter's scheduled fight on Boxrec for April has also disappeared.

Alternatively, it could be Parker they're lining up for Bakole if Massey was to be a warm up for Bakole's opponent...

It makes sense. As you say, it'll likely end up on Sky, and they'll be looking for a good chief support. Hunter-Bakole II fits the bill. Might they want a warm up beforehand? Massey could be available, and if he stops him, it'll seem an improvement on Parker's performance, maybe building a fight between the two for later on.

Boxxer can't risk Parker vs Bakolie. Parker has just been knocked out in a rival platform! He either goes 0-2 or beats Bakolie on his Sky Debut - horrible situation.

They need to build Bakolie, Okolie, Azim, Dubois and Fury before matching them. Ben Whittaker as well.

Bakolie, Parker, Fury and eventually Okolie is a strong heavyweight roster. Don't see a World Champion heavyweight in any of them though. Rich I know as Parker has been champions before.

Parker already came back with a win post his loss to Joyce.

Parker isn’t a big ticket seller and I wouldn’t imagine, at this stage, Bakole is either so they both need to be in good, competitive fights if they’re going to headline.

Bakole vs Parker is a real good fight. I’d pick Bakole to stop him. He had a great win last time out and I hope they don’t drop him down a level now.

Parker being a gatekeeper in his third fight with Boxxer is wild. I agree though, it is a good fight.

I wonder what they really signed Parker for, because it can't have been to fill out PPV cards as fourth on the bill. It would definitely build Bakole's profile, but I think Hunter II is a better fight for him.

Maybe they were overly confident they could make Parker-Whyte II. That would've been ideal for Joe, he probably wins that at this stage.

I think you’re right and they intended to make the fight with Whyte.

Heavyweight boxing tends to bring more eyes and interest so thought Parker coming off 2 wins against Chisora would be a good investment.

I think Parker signed with Boxxer to help negotiate a better deal with Joyce’s team.

Probably cost more because they were both on opposite ends.

They no doubt tried getting the fight on Sky PPV as well.

Parker Vs Hunter is reportedly close to being completed so Bakole could be in with a chance against the winner at some point.

Dubois for the WBA Regular belt or Hrgovic for the Interim IBF belt by any chance?

AJ and Whyte would be bigger names. Bakole is a former AJ sparring partner... Maybe he could retire Ortiz? Or be an opponent for Joyce? Ortiz would probably be the only one they could get on Sky though.

Must be Hrgovic, presuming Ruiz drops out. Wilder and (most likely) Joshua won't go for it unless it's for a vacant and then it's Bakole next.

I doubt Frank is too keen to put Dubois in with Martin.

Bakole's team have been pushing for the mandatory against Dubois so they might have hope that that's going to happen or possibly the IBF shot could come instead.

Frank may not get a choice with Dubois. I can’t see it happening as it’ll probably only happen on BT which I’d be surprised if Boxxer want.

Hrgovic has purse bids in 2 weeks for Ruiz for the IBF interim. Obviously may not happen but after Ruiz it’s AJ and Wilder in the rankings. Followed by Bakole. Would probably go to purse bids as I can’t see Eddie wanting Hrgovic to fight on Sky in a tough fight.

Either way I can’t see all the above happening quickly and Bakole needs activity. Would rather see him against Parker or Hunter rather than them fighting each other.

True, I'd like to see it, I'm assuming Lerena was a voluntary defence? Mandatory must be about due now then, ten months since he fought Bryan. Who do you favour in a Dubois-Bakole fight?
