I thought so, he could have hung on for 5 seconds and been evaluated in his corner by Boxercise Ben.

I’m happy to be in the minority but to me Wood was in control at that point, he just left himself open as he had done several times when getting into hook exchanges, but this one landed bang on the button.

it's a tough call..........there was still about 5 seconds left and the ref was gonna let them box on right then. lara defo could've gotten off some more shots at a very hurt wood. but ya, so close to the bell

Seemed like a really poor showing by the trainer. Picked the opponent and then threw in the towel.

I don’t like Ben Davison & take any opportunity to have a dig at him but Wood was done, he still wasn’t right a couple of minutes later.

Sickening for Wood, boxed so well , much better than I predicted but I wasn't shocked Wood can box he mostly controlled Lara apart from when he got hurt in the 2nd, he recovered well and boxed and troubled Lara, had him backing up and looking confused, not much tenacity, Wood straight rights consistently, Lara was always gonna be dangerous but the the KO was still a shocker, Wood got caught exchanging with a hooker,.got home first but Lara dropped him hard, it looked a finisher

Ben Davison got it right for me,, purely going by Wood's legs 10 seconds after the end

he was clearly winning the fight, i think that left hook was the end of it though even if he continued to the next round, lara was gonna stop him anyway

gregregegg wrote: 18 Feb 2023, 19:37 up 5 rounds to 1, couple of seconds to go. lara not in his corner, so ref would of had to send him back, by the time that all happens its the end of the round and davis could of assessed his man properly.
Yep. :TU:

No way Angelo Dundee, Manny Stewart or Eddie Futch throw in the towel.

i did think lara had been coming into it the last round even before the ko though......i think most likely wood gets hurt even worse if it goes on, but we'll never know

he was totally unsteady, that is true. he did not look well prepared to continue on.........there was just so little time left and that makes you ask what if he'd gotten that minute

judges had it 58-56x2 and 59-55 wood, so on two of the cards it wouldve been an even fight if wood made it into the 7th with the 1 kd

I think a rematch is fair, Wood appears able to stick to a game plan, just needs to resist the temptation to do certain moves against Lara.

Five seconds left, Lara not in the neutral corner, ref still checking on Wood.

So sad for Leigh but I predicted Lara doing it. He has surreal power for a featherweight.

Great fight, well played both. :salut:

Leigh-Thal was punch-perfect, winning 5-2 ish and beating El Bronco up.
And Lara was great too - way behind and a long way from home and he produces :box:

The consensus is... "Good Towel" ?
I'm normally in favour - or at least understanding of - early stoppages while the forum wants blood.
But for once I thought that might be early. Coulda lasted 10s and tried again in the 8th..? :maybe:

well that's the thing with a puncher, all they need is one. wood boxed nearly punch perfect for 7 rounds and still got ko'd. i think he'll be unlikely to do it for 12

wood did well enough to make a rematch warranted, but tbh i like to see new matchups to keep things fresh. is mick fighting lopez for sure? if not mick vs lara could be something

Title fight. Trainer should have assessed him between rounds. My guess is Wood looks for a new trainer if he carries on.

Wood was fcked. He could barely stand up straight. Maybe im going soft as i get older but i would rather a fight be stopped where the loser can come back another day than let it go on for him to be starched....all just for my own entertainment
