JOE LOUIS VS BILLY CONN? SIX OR EIGHT OUNCE GLOVES?

IN THEIR BOUTS FROM THE 1940'S WHAT OUNCE GLOVES WERE USED? Was it six or eight ounce gloves, anyone know? pls post.........thks.......... :bag: :bag: :bag: :yay: :yay: :yay: :OhYes: :OhYes: :OhYes:

It was most likely 6 oz gloves because 8 oz gloves did not necessarily become the norm until the 1960s or so. For a long time everybody under middleweight wore 6oz gloves and everybody above wore 8 oz gloves. However after the death of Dooku Kim and the horribly one-sided Larry Holmes vs Tex Cobb bout, glove sizes were increased to where heavyweights wore 10 oz gloves and everyone under middleweight wore 8oz.

N.B.A. states went to 8 ouncers in 1951 but there were some exceptions. See Robinson-Fullmer 2 in 1957.

Actually the N.B.A. states went to 8 ouncers in 1948-I double checked. I read a lot of old newspapers online.

What's really interesting is how the rules have changed regarding hand wrapping. Years ago-30's and 40's-some states were only allowing 18 inches of tape per hand and not nearly as much bandage as today, though I forget the exact amounts allowed years back.
