Actually, yes, I am. I find it unbelievable and frankly quite disconcerting that this site refuses to change such obviously pertinent information as a boxer's nationality. This reluctance to correct this issue is especially hard to accept considering all the evidence and debate that has been posted to bring this error to BoxRec's attention. I am relatively new to boxing, therefore, I've been trying to find sources that have details concerning historical, current and CORRECT information on various boxers. I'm sorry to say that this site does not appear to be one that fits my criteria, especially since they continue to purposefully display inaccurate information regarding a boxer's statisticsDruid wrote:Why, looking for an alternative?nadurtha_1 wrote:Is boxrec the only boxing website that post the boxer's information?

If you consider pointing out facts and seeking clarification "whining and complaining" - then I seriously doubt your credentials as an editor on Boxrec. If John Shep was prepared to back up his decision with a reasoned argument then I don't there would have been all this fuss. JohnSheps silence with regards this topic speaks volumes!!alarmakool wrote:What I find stupid is the constant whining and complaining about a topic that has been already decided on. John has made his decision. If you don't like it, well then I'm sorry. It most likely won't be changed until he believes it should be.

This is actually getting quite amusing so basically what you are implying here is that some random individual has the right to decide and impose his views upon someone even though under international law he is so implicitly incorrect? and that is under his discretion to decide when he will admit he is incorrect? Im sorry sir if you call pointing out a genuine error that legally is incorrect as "stupid" then im simply at loss for words.

Some random individual? It's his website and he can do waht he wants! I understand what you're saying and I have no idea why he has decided what he has but it's his site and yes, he can do whatever he wants with it just like any other website - that includes kicking you off of here if he choose to do so.shamboo wrote:alarmakool wrote:What I find stupid is the constant whining and complaining about a topic that has been already decided on. That is a very simplistic statement. You are failing to take into consideration several factors that should concern the owner greatly.scottmallon wrote:

The value of this site to it's owner is based completely on the traffic. Wihout that traffic John Shep is just a guy with some statistics and a monthly bandwidth bill.
The way the truth and the posters to this thread are ignored would lead any fair minded person to question the motives of John Shep and anyone defending his actions in this case. Perhaps one of these fair minded individuals might see market potential for a site similar to BoxRec but where the ethos was to reflect accurately the true status of all of the fighters.
Hubris has no place on a site that would like to become the site of record, facts are the only thing that matters.

that is total bullshiit, JohnShep only wants people not to talk about it, he would rather the issue simply goes away.tegenm wrote:Have those who persist at this, ever stopped and thought that their persistence has only ruined their chances at being taken seriously by anybody who doesn't share their viewpoint. We are not putting forward a viewpoint - we are simply highlighting facts and asking questions (which he cant answer). No one from Boxrec is prepared to enter into a discussion on the subject. Why is that!?!? I'll tell you why, because their arguement wont stand up to any scrutiny.
We are not making fools of ourselves - far from it - infact there is only one person on here that should be blushing - YOUR SILENCE SPEAKS VOLUMES!!!!
Im just wondering if boxrec could clarify a few points for me which would clear the air for me somewhat. I know that boxrec in attempting to be endorsed by the boxing community solicited the American Boxing Commissioners (ABC) to sanction them as the second "official" record keeper(fightfax is the only one now), but were denied because they were not properly secured in their editing. Since then boxrec have apparently made a number of changes so that this situation could be rectifyed.
This naturally brings a number of questions to the fore if boxrec want to be offically endorsed(1) Are boxrec or will boxrec be answerable to one individual or individuals in regard to how these individuals percieve and view the world, politically or otherwise? (2) if boxrec really want to be the official record keepers are they going to attempt to do this under the hospice of an individual or individuals who can wield apparently totalatarian like power?.(3) If boxrec are making the changes neccessary so that they will be officially recognised when do they expect to have these changes completed by or have they already been completed?

I ask nobody else to reply to this apart from boxrec it is a very legitimate question and if it answered honestly then i promise i will desist from posting on this subject.
Anybody can fight for a "Nationality" title. Look at this:
http://www.boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=496481
Shay Mobley is about as Polish as Mike Tyson.

Boxrec is attempting to become and official record keeper, that is correct. That would include the information of particular fights; ie., fighters, result, date, weights, location. Once we receive the commision report the full information is entered and the card is locked.
The profile information on each fighter has nothing to do with the record keeping. The offiical endorsement of the ABC has nothing to do with profile information or the wikipedia section of a fight or a fighter. It only has to do with the bout information.
When it comes to fight results, the commision rules. All 50 states currently send us commision reports as do several countries worldwide. If the ABC were to recognize BoxRec as an official record keeper, nothing would change. All commission results would be locked and kept from further editing.
I'm not sure exactly if this is what you wanted to know. I sense you are fishing for an answer but the the records are all that is in question to the ABC. The profile info and wikipedia info have nothing to do with it.
I realized I repeated the same thing basically all 4 paragraphs, but its late and I'm tired so blah.
So, would you be satisfied if he was shown with the Red Hand Flag? Or would you only accept the Irish Tricolour?sligobhoy67 wrote:that correct emile. its widely used as the representative flag of northern ireland but afaik its not the official flag - also it it not widely used by the Irish/Nationalist community and is more used by the British/Unionist community.emile wrote:According to what I read, the Red Hand flag hasn't had official governmental sanction since 1972.
