It’s completely different. There are tragedies in professional boxing, but generally after hard fought contests between two highly trained fighters who are aware of the risks - which are hopefully minimised through proper checks. It is their vocation.

People are dying/becoming disabled in UCWB needlessly, after one or two rounds, sometimes just after one or two punches.

These are often students in pursuit of a bit of fun. Not athletes pursuing their ambition or a living. It’s a needless risk, particularly when everything that should be done isn’t.
:TU: The fact that tragedies occur in the more heavily regulated pro sport is not an excuse to allow these unregulated matches to continue
Wow imagine trying to pretend white collar boxing in more dangerous than pro boxing lol :lol

Or more dangerous than Amateur boxing….

As for being ‘regulated’ what does that even mean?
Amateurs have a doctor shine a light in their eye, take their blood pressure, read some letters off a board and they get their card and are good to go for their amateur career…… lol and suddenly that makes the fights ‘regulated’ and safe?
You don’t even need paramedics or ambulances for an amateur show just a doctor….. at big white collar shows I’ve seen all 3.

The fighters are wearing head guards and 16ounce gloves, and box 3 x 2s….. the fights get stopped quickly and there are often standing counts….. but to you two they’re ‘dangerous’ and ‘unregulated’ because some doctor didn’t shine a light in their eye, take their blood pressure and ask them to read letters off a chart 5 years previously lol

Boxing at any level has a risk. But pro sparring is ‘unregulated’ and likely to be far more brutal and be ire rounds than some white collar contest.

What about Nick Blackwell? Remember him?
What a prick

How anyone can claim UCWB is safer than pro or amateur boxing is beyond me!

You're leaving out the total mismatches in white collar (some through deception by the gym or boxer) and, worse, the almost complete lack of any records to try to avoid it.

Amateur boxing has a lot more structure in matching fighters. There are of course mismatches in the pro game, but a lot of these are journeymen not trying to win or away fighters brought in as sacrificial lambs who know what their role is probably going to be. Not always of course.

But crucially, there is a really big difference between what a reasonably experienced amateur or pro can do to look after themselves if they get hurt or find themselves out of their depth - move, hold, cover up, take a knee, quit etc. A guy with only two months' experience of boxing and getting hit has no idea what to do when hurt or exhausted, let alone outclassed. And good defence takes time to learn. The result is you do see some harrowing knockouts on these shows, because it can easily be someone with combat experience easily finding a knockout shot on a bloke who's not on his level or size and doesn't know very well how to protect himself. And those are bloody dangerous too.

As for Nick Blackwell, why on earth he chose to spar after being put in a coma for a week with a head injury and retiring is anyone's guess. But with all due respect, that's a pretty rare level of reckless, and i doubt that anyone else is going to try the same thing, unregulated or not
